Vegas Finally Dumps Dadonov Contract, Sends Him To Canadiens For Weber Contract

This is kind of funny. Only a few moments after I’m done writing and then releasing an article about how disastrous the Evgenii Dadonov trade debacle was for the Vegas Golden Knights, they actually ended up getting rid of his debilitating cap hit. Yes, the Dadonov experiment has ended in Vegas, resulting in what can only be described as a failure.

To be honest, he has never really lived up to the hype so many teams have placed on him. His two great years with the Florida Panthers (65pts in 2017/18 and 70pts in 2018/19) now looks more like anomaly in what has shaped out into a career of a guy who really should be a 3rd-Line winger on good teams. Still, I feel bad for the guy.

He had a decent final year in Vegas, scoring 20 goals and putting up 43 points. But that $5 million cap hit is what hampered and cloudy his time in Vegas. That cap hit was ultimately what caused the Anaheim trade misshape, and what sealed his fate with the Golden Knights even before the season ended.

Now, with this trade with the Habs, Vegas has cleared up that $5 million in cap space, while Dadonov has a chance to prove his worth in team that will give him a lot of goalscoring responsibility. Though, the real tragedy of this most recent Dadonov trade is what has become of Shea Weber. It is a real shame that Montreal’s 2021 Stanley Cup Final run is really going to be the last we ever see the great defenseman and captain.

Sadly, his contract is going to be used like Datsyuk and Hossa’s, trading chips to help teams get under the cap until it finally runs out.
