Jaguars Still Get Blown Out, Even In A Meaningless Preseason Game By Raiders

Will the Jaguars ever be able to win a game again? Even in a meaningless preseason game, the Jaguars still get blown off the field by the Raiders’ backups and third stringers. Life must be rough as a Jaguars fan.

Yeah, I may be going in a little too hard on the Jaguars for this loss. It is only the Hall of Fame game (congrats to Tony Boselli (Jaguars), Cliff Branch (Raiders), and Richard Seymor (Raiders), who made it into the Hall and played for either the Jags or Raiders), which is the most meaningless game of the entire NFL calendar season.

Plus, I’d be surprised if three of these players (from either team) makes it into the starting lineups come September.

Still, the Jaguars backups and the third stringers shouldn’t get beaten that bad by the Raiders backups and third stringers. The Jaguars were held off the scoreboard until 2:10 of the 3rd Quarter and didn’t score a touchdown until 3:26 of the 4th Quarter. That’s not good enough, even for backups and third stringers.

And, what makes this loss worse is that the Raiders backups and third stingers didn’t look that great either. If they played any other team, it would have been a much closer result.

The stain of Urban Meyer and his utter incompetence will need a while longer to be rubbed out of the Jaguars organization. Everything that was built under Tom Coughlin and Doug Marrone was torn down, set on fire, then defaced by Meyer and his arrogance. Doug Pederson will need a few seasons to rework this roster in his image before the Jags become AFC contenders again.

Unfortunately for Jaguars fans, that will mean 2-3 years of horrifying on-field play. There are only 5-10 players who should be on this roster come the end of the rebuild, which is not great. That is just another sign that the Urban Meyer half-year disaster sent this rebuild back into its infancy.

I know he did not play in this game, but I am not sure Trevor Lawrence is the guy for the future. He looked out of place all season long and didn’t really learn from his mistakes, though that may be just because of Urban Meyer. Doug Pederson is a QB guru (he won a Super Bowl with Nick Foles), so he might be able to revive Lawerance’s potential. But I’m not holding my breath.

The next few seasons will be long ones for Jaguars fans. But, hey, at least they have a pool in TIAA Bank Field and the weather in Florida is nice. Life could be worse. Your team could be bad and live in New York (Haha Jets fans).
