Another year of Madden, another year of glitches, bugs, cut content, and overwhelming loot boxes. I just picked up Madden 23 yesterday and I have to say that, like every other recent Madden game, this one is painfully BAD too!
Does EA really just not care what the fans think? How has the hierarchy of this company allowed the developers of Madden 23 to produce a glitchy, buggy, half-completed game that just copy and pastes menus, navigation, and player movements from seven years ago?
Wait, why am I even asking that question? The answer is simple: it’s because they’re GREEDY!!!
In the past ten years, there has been no one more notoriously greedy, slimy, and downright predatory than EA has been towards its customers in the video game community. Considering that the vast majority of EA’s consumer base is 7–20 year olds, I’m surprised I haven’t seen the hierarchy of EA get sat down by Chris Hansen yet.
I mean, at this point, EA are just blatantly exploiting these kid’s money (well, they parent’s money actually) on overpriced Ultimate Team ‘packs’ and other greedy micro transactions.
Don’t believe me? Former EA CEO, John Riccitiello, said in an interview that companies who DON’T PUT MICROTRANSACTIONS in their games are, and I quote, “They’re also some of the biggest f**king idiots.” (I’ve hyperlinked the Dexerto article with more of this interview, and left a link below)
What EA is charging for these games is INSANE.
The base game alone costs $69.99, even though it is an exact replicate of not only Madden 21, but also every single Madden from Madden 17 to Madden 23. Meanwhile, the “All-Madden” edition, with some useless Ultimate team “perks”, costs $99.99! $100 DOLLARS FOR A RESKINNED MADDEN GAME!
EA actually thinks we are idiots.
Thankfully, the fan ratings for Madden 23 have been awful as the game currently has a 5/10 rating on Steam, a 38% approval rating on Google Users, and 1.4/10 score on Metacritic.
I’ll give my own review of the game in a week or so, once I’ve played more of this game’s copy and pasted features from some of the old Maddens. Still, just to give you all a small hint as to how I’ll be scoring this game, let me just say that there is no way this game is anywhere near as good as that Steam score suggests.
