Jets REALLY Have A QB Controversy Now…

Yeah, the Jets have a massive problem on their hands. With backup QB Mike White coming in for the benched Zach Wilson and lighting up the Bears secondary to secure a blowout win, Robert Salah and the Jets are now faced with a massive choice: who to start next week?

This was probably the worst case (and also best case from a certain point of view) scenario for Robert Salah and the Jets. Yes, it’s great that Mike White was able to come into the starting lineup and deliver a huge and much-needed victory for the Jets, but his outstanding individual play has now caused a massive issue. Namely, who do the Jets start next week against the 9-2 Minnesota Vikings?

Do they start the flying backup quarterback, or their ice-cold, locker room-hated 1st round pick?

This benching was just supposed to be a one-game affair that would serve to teach Wilson a lesson in responsibility, respect, accountability, and leadership in wake of his ridiculous comments after the Jet humiliating 10-3 loss to the New England Patriots two week ago. Wilson was supposed to grow as a leader of the Jets organization, not watch his starting spot get snatched out from under him by his backup.

How do you not start a guy who has just thrown nearly a perfect game by going 22/28 for 315 yards and 3 TD passes, while also significantly outperforming the original starting quarterback. I mean, Mike White almost matched Zach Wilson’s ENTIRE touchdown pass statline (4 TD passes) in a single game. That’s embarrassing.

Whether Wilson likes it or not, he’s now the backup quarterback for the foreseeable future. Not only did Mike White outperform him to such a degree that it made Wilson’s whole season look even worse (which I didn’t think possible), but the Jets roster got behind White.

They all seemed thrilled that White was playing as well as he did, and they weren’t afraid to celebrate in Zach Wilson’s face. Wilson must have really been an utter jerk these last eleven weeks to have his entire team turn against him and galvanize behind the backup quarterback as much as the Jets did yesterday.

Hopefully, this lesson serves Wilson right if he gets his starting quarterback job back. And that’s no longer a guarantee if Mike White continues to play as well as he did yesterday for the rest of the season.

Though, I think we should all remember that White was only facing off against the Bears. He’ll have a much tougher task against the Bears divisional foe, the Minnesota Vikings, this Sunday.
