Bills Super Bowl Hopes Get Slimer With Von Miller Placed On IR

Injuries were the only thing that could stopped Buffalo. The Buffalo Bills have suffered yet another massive injury blow as their leading sack artist, Von Miller, has been placed on IR, which is yet another blow to their Super Bowl hopes.

Injuries. The great equalizer to superstar, unstoppable teams has been constant throughout all the years that competitive sports has been played.

No matter how good one builds up their team, a few key injuries to a few key players has the potential to completely devastate that team’s chances of winning a championship. It has happened year after year in every single sport that is known to mankind, and the Buffalo Bills are just the latest ‘superteam’ to fall victim to it.

This Von Miller injury is going to be extremely devastating for this Bills defense as they are not only losing his 8.0 sacks (which is the #12 best in the NFL) for at least the next four weeks, but they are also going to lose out on his ability to protect the pass coverage game. Miller and his innate skill to run through any offensive lineman and sack a quarterback has protected the secondary on every team he has been on.

An underrated aspect of a great secondary is the consistency of a defense’s front to force the QB into making poor, untimely throws. Without Von Miller, the Bills secondary is going to be forced to cover for longer and have better and more accurate passes thrown at them.

The Bills have already lost important players LB Tremaine Edwards, DE AJ Epenesa, and S Micah Hyde on defense, so this latest Miller blow is just the icing on the cake for the Bills woes. Sure, they can still make a Super Bowl run out of the AFC, but it is going to be extremely difficult if they have to face the Chiefs, Dolphins, Titans, and/or Bengals/Ravens on the road for their opening playoff game.

I mean, we already saw last season how the Bills imploded late on in the game when they faced a superior team on the road in the playoffs, and that was when they were healthy. Obviously, they could still overtake Miami for the AFC East division title to avoid that fate, but that seems unlikely with how many injuries the Bills have suffered along with the important games they have coming up.

Plus, with Josh Allen and the Bills offense struggling to limit their turnover lately, it seems ever more likely that Bills Mafia will have to wait another year for a serious Super Bowl run.
