Predictably, Henry Cavil Is Getting Blamed For The Witcher Failures

Predictably, Henry Cavil Is Getting Blamed For The Witcher Failures (Netflix-The Witcher-Season 2 Teaser Trailer)

This stunt is about as predictable as Blood Origin was bad. In light of Henry Cavil stepping down as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s The Witcher over rumored creative differences, the writing cast, producers, and mouth pieces for the show are now out to smear his name and advert the bad press.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to have predicated the bad blood we see from the Henry Cavil team and The Witcher crew over the movie star’s exit from the show.

From the moment Cavil posted to his Instagram that he was leaving The Witcher and his role as Geralt of Rivia behind for Liam Hemsworth, the fan and critical backlash against The Witcher show, Netflix, the show’s producers, the show’s writing staff, and the showrunner herself, Lauren Schmidt-Hissrich, was deafening, expected, and deserved.

How bad must a show’s production staff be to not only lose one of the biggest and most adored Hollywood movies stars from your show, but also to lose him due to creative differences? Obviously, it’s not confirmed that the Cavil left The Witcher due to fundamental differences over how the characters and plot of The Witcher was said to transpire in the upcoming seasons, but if you know anything about Cavil, there’s no other reason why he’d leave.

Cavil is an avid and outspoken mega fan of fantasy works, such as Warhammer, Lord of the Rings, and The Witcher, and was the most vocal and excited out of all the cast about the role of Geralt. Plus, he gave the most convincing and true-to-source-material depiction out all the characters with his portrayal of Geralt of Rivia, despite the glaring deviations the show took from Andrzej Sapkowski books.

Simply put, Henry Cavil was Geralt of Rivia.

Though, one can only take so much disrespect to their beloved characters, stories, etc. before they snap. And that is what it seems happened with Cavil and The Wicther writing and producing staff as he seems to have flat out refused to be a part of their desecration of The Witcher for any longer.

It’s obvious for anyone who is a fan of either Sapkowski’s books, CD Projekt Red’s video game trilogy, or both that the way the characters and plots are presented in The Witcher are so far from what was established in the lore that the show is closer to fanfiction than “adaptation”.

Moreover, with writers having strangely and publicly revealed that they put their own personal problems and dilemmas they faced in their own lives within the characters of the show, it’s clear that they use the name of “The Witcher” as nothing else than to further their own viewpoints and ways of thinking. Now, there’s nothing wrong with that when you write your own stories and characters, but it is a huge violation of the world and story Andrzej Sapkowski wrote when his ideas are getting set aside for their own.

And that’s why Cavil left (well, that’s what I and many others believe).

Still, it is clear that the loss of Cavil has really hit the writing and producing teams hard as they are currently in overdrive to smear Cavil and his reputation in any way possible.

From claims of being a toxic cast member, misogynistic, condescending, rude, disrespectful, late, unprofessional, and having a “gamer bro” demeanor (which I still don’t know what that means), everything that these people’s mouth pieces can feed into the public’s diet about Cavil in order to save face has been dished out.

Of course, it’s always important to take claims like this seriously and with the gravity it deserves, but that’s hard in this case given the circumstances.

Never in Cavil’s career has anything negative every been said or leaked about him, despite being one of the most popular actors in the world after his role as Superman. But the moment he controversially leaves a show that is hemorrhaging fans and viewer interest, a tidal wave of bad press and unsubstantiated rumors came out about him? That’s a coincidence if I’ve ever seen one.

Sure, maybe Cavil was “disrespectful” or “rude” to some of these writers and producers, but why would he be? Due to their incompetence and hatred of the source material? Perhaps they were rude to him in the first place? Or maybe none of what these “sources” have revealed is true? We’ll never know.

What we do know is that The Witcher: Blood Origin is one of the worst shows to release this year, The Witcher flagship show is in turmoil with the loss of Cavil, and Netflix must surely be seeing the writing on the wall for the show if Season 4 of The Witcher (the first one without Cavil) is anywhere as bad and unpopular as it is shaping out to look.
