Did those actors and actresses realize how pretentious and snobby they looked? In perhaps one of the most boring Golden Globes ever, one of the only noteworthy things to mention was how disrespectful the winners were to the show’s production team.

Perhaps I’m making a mountain out of a molehill, but I can’t get over how rude, disrespectful, and cruel a good majority of the night’s winners were to the NBC production team. And especially the poor piano player.

I realize that these actors, actresses, producers, directors, screenwriters, composers, set designers, etc. all have worked really hard to get nominated and win the Golden Globe for their, respective, field of cinema, but is it too much to ask to show a little respect and humility when addressing people? If you want to turn off an audience to you as a filmmaker, which is the exact last thing you should want, then do exactly what Colin Farrel, Michael Yeoh, Austin Butler, etc. did during their speeches.

Like I said, winning a Golden Globe must be one of the best feelings as an actor, but that doesn’t give you the right to insult and even threaten the piano player.

I mean, what was Michael Yeoh thinking when she not only told the piano player to shut up, but then she threatened to beat her up just because she was doing her job? I get she waited 60 years for such an honor yet take it with humility and grace. Don’t be an arrogant, snobby, obnoxious fool that prays upon the weak and those just doing their job.

With that being said, I can also see a case for the winners wanting more than just 2 minutes to give out their thanks. After all, they did work very hard to earn the respect, admiration, and adoration of their peers and critics, but that’s not a reason to viciously and constantly disparage someone for doing their job. If I was in charge of the Golden Globes, I would have given all the winners a strict 4-minute speech slot and called it a day.

Yet, that may not have been possible as it’s obvious these award shows are becoming less and less popular with each iteration. With famous actresses threating to beat up innocent piano players, I wonder why?

Still, that was probably the worst thing I heard said to the piano player last night, though Austin Butler criticizing her music choice, Colin Farrell saying “you can forget that piano”, and all of the snarky remarks by the majority of the winners was unnecessary in my humble opinion. Honestly, you’d think most of those winners were giving gospel sermons from the word of God himself with how rude they dismissed the piano lady.

Plus, I don’t know if this is true, but I thought I read that the original piano player had to leave her post because she was so upset over the constant criticisms. Whether it’s true or not, I think such reports just go to show how toxic and pretentious last night felt.

Obviously, the Golden Globes and all of these award shows have always been pretentious and snobby as they are glamorous, glitzy theaters celebrating glamorous, glitzy, and mostly out-of-touch people doing a job that really could be done by anybody. Yet, they were never as disrespectful to the people who put together and conducted the show.

Sure, Joe the Plumber might not be the best actor if he had to fill in for a role, but I would 1000% Joe to do a better job as an actor over an actor filling in as a plumber.

I mean no offense but when I’m watching an award show that is getting away from the actual product each one of those people are supposed to be promoting and honoring, I can’t help but stick up for a person who didn’t deserve the criticism she got.

As Ricky Gervais once said, “If you win, come up, accept your little award. Then thank your agent and your god and f*ck off.” A lot of those winners last night should have remembered that advice.
