Will Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League Right Gotham Knights’ Wrongs?

Will Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League Right Gotham Knights Wrongs? (Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment-Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League-Official Teaser Trailer)

It better or else Warner Bros. has two more DC duds on its hands. In the wake of the recent Suicide Squad: KJL leaks about it being a live service game, I just hope that it turns out better than the travesty that was Gotham Knights.

Will Warner Bros. ever learn how to make consistently great DC content? I guess not as Gotham Knights, despite having a great premise, was one of the worst DC-inspired video games I’ve ever played.

Along with a weak and disappointingly short main story, Gotham Knights never got off the ground running as it suffered from numerous performance issues (the game was strangely designed to run at 30 FPS on consoles), very bland combat, badly designed missions that were more repetitive than a teacher asking for late homework, and a lifeless “open world” Gotham.

I mean, you know the game is flawed when Batman acted more suicidal than the Suicide Squad itself. The guy needless put himself in harms’ way on at least three occasions that he could have easily of avoided/solved if the plot and gameplay didn’t necessitate his death.

To be honest, Gotham Knights is what I imagine EA would have made the original Arkham games as that company would milk the hell out of any IP/famous character it can gets its hands on.

Anyway, in light of the recent Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League leaks, I’m not really all that optimistic it will be better than Arkham Knights.

Sure, the game looks great, the characters and concepts are really cool, and Rocksteady was the company that developed the original Arkham Knights games for Warner Bros. (and were not responsible for making Gotham Knights) but making this game live-action really has me worried about cut-content from the get-go.

In this day and age where companies like EA can practically get away with stiffing its loyal fanbase for thousands of dollars through game passes, early access codes, special content releases, overpriced DLCs, etc., the temptation for companies like Rocksteady and Warner Bros. is almost too much not to do.

I can see a future where the story chapters, the weapons, outfits, accessories, and even the members of the Suicide Squad themselves may be locked behind $30-$60 paywalls on launch day.

I really hope that isn’t the case as this game looks absolutely fantastic and explores the ideas introduced in the Injustice comic books and games, which happen to be some of my favorite pieces of DC media.

We’ll have to wait and see for the May 2023 release date as Rocksteady has been very coy about practically everything this game has to offer. In any case, I’m sure Rocksteady will correct on Gotham Knight’s mistakes and make this game at least playable at 60 FPS.
