Hogwarts Legacy Sure Does Look Great…But Will Its Main Story Hold Up?

The game has some fantastic graphics and character, location, and art models, but is the story any good? Hogwarts Legacy has made its name in the gaming world being with its beautiful graphics and divisiveness, but is the story good enough to hold up such expectations?

First off, let me just say that if the gameplay of Hogwarts Legacy is like the trailers released thus far, then this will be one of the most beautiful, expertly handcrafted gaming worlds of all time.

The graphics look off the charts as the characters, locations, items, creatures, magic, etc. shown off in the trailers are absolutely awe-inspiring and impressively realistic, which is saying a lot given the advancements in graphical design/computation in recent years. Just based off how the game looks, it is an early contender for Game of the Year for 2023.

Though, that’s not how games are judged for such high honors as the story, character development, gameplay, user interface, etc. are all just as important aspects in making a legendary game as dressing it up with next-gen graphics. And, as of this moment, I’m not entirely sold on the snippets we’ve been told about the story.

As to my knowledge, set in the 1800’s, we’ll be taking up the mantel of a recently transferred 5th year wizard student to Hogwarts, the iconic wizard school of the Harry Potter/Wizarding World (yeah, Wizarding World is a really dumb universe name).

Anyway, our character has an inborn ability to decipherer/locate ancient magics (I’m not sure if its ancient magic locations, artifacts, or both) and that will be a central focus as we have to fight off some secret goblin rebellion as we advance our magic education as a Hogwarts student.

I don’t mean to sound like a party pooper, but this mysterious goblin rebellion sounds a little boring to have to fight.

Now, I’m not a Harry Potter fanatic and nor have I seen/read all of the Harry Potter movies/books, but I do know what these goblins look like. And, as many of you have probably thought, how are these guys supposed to pose some huge threat to the Wizarding World?

Aren’t they 4-foot-tall bankers, loaners, accountants, etc. during the time of Harry Potter? How are they seriously going to pose a threat to much taller and more numerous (if I’ve done my research correctly) human population that can not only tower over them and easily overpower them, but also beat them with their magical prowess.

Forgive me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure J.K. Rowling wrote that all goblin rebellions in the Wizarding World have been put down by human wizards, even though goblins have ingrained magical talents. Each and every time.

How are we supposed to take this “sinister” threat seriously if these guys not only are physically unintimidating, but also have no track record of being able to defeat humanity? Personally, I would have liked to see a whole different race of creatures/humanoid characters for a secret rebellion, similar to how Voldermort was hiding in the Harry Potter timeline.

Obviously, Warner Bros. couldn’t have used Voldermort as the main villain, but some other dark wizard could have done. Or at least someone more intimating than a 4-foot goblin that my 12-year-old character is taller than.

I hope I’m wrong, but I just don’t see how these goblins can pose as serious, intimidating villains as Hogwarts Legacy is propping them up to be.
