It’s been a while since the Lands Between got a new boss for us Tarnished to conquer. The Elden Ring one year anniversary celebration on Twitch is fast approaching, and many players are wondering if (and when) FromSoftware will announce a DLC for the 2022 Game of the Year.

Let me just star off this article by saying this: if Elden Ring never gets a content update from FromSoftware again, let alone a huge DLC that we are all hoping for in the future, the game is still one of my Top-10 favorites ever.

There is just so many things to do, see, explore, and battle in Elden Ring that I doubt players will achieve 90% of all the game has to offer in their first 5 playthroughs (without the help of the Wiki and YouTube), never mind the first playthrough.

Whether it’s exploring Jarburg and the fates of Knight Diallos Hoslow, Iron-Fist Alexander, and Jar Bairn, discovering The Haligtree and getting killed 150 times by Malenia, Blade of Miquella, or finding out how Kale’s (aka: Elden Ring Santa) people were locked away below Leyndell and accursed by Queen Marika and the Golden Order in order to keep the Three Fingers and The Flame of Frenzy sealed off, there’s just so much to do in Elden Ring.

I mean, it took me three playthroughs and reading up on the Wiki lore for me to discover all three questlines and locations I listed above. This game is truly one of the few ever developed that you can realistically get 10+ playthroughs, 1,000+ hours played, and 6-8 years of high-quality graphics/mechanics without it feeling boring or outdated.

Nevertheless, us Tarnished gamers have clearly not headed Morgott’s demands of “putting thy foolish ambitions to rest” as we are all anxiously awaiting Hidetaka Miyazaki and FromSoftware to announce a DLC for Elden Ring. And what better time could that be than during an entire event celebrating the one-year anniversary of the 2022 Game of the Year?

Sure, it’s mostly just going to be a PvP mega-event pitting some of Twitch’s biggest streamers against one another in order to win real-life, Elden Ring-themed prizes, but the nature of the platform does give FromSoftware the opportunity to announce a new DLC. What better way to celebrate the success of the game than to unveil a new DLC for it?

So, do I actually think FromSoftware will announce a new DLC for Elden Ring at this event? Uh…no, probably not.

From everything I’ve heard so far, this event is solely going to celebrate the game and advertise it to new players through the Twitch PvP matches. I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think that will be the day we get the long-awaited revelation of a new Elden Ring DLC.

In fact, I believe there will be a series of new Elden Ring games in the future, let alone one lonesome DLC release. Elden Ring has been such a massive success for FromSoftware and the Souls-game genre that it’d be shocking if the company doesn’t make this game into a franchise, similarly to how they turned the original Dark Souls game into a trilogy.

Therefore, I think it’s only a matter of time before our Tarnish lord faces off against some devastatingly hard boss again. The only question that remains is: who/what will the DLC be about? Miquella? The Formless Mother (Mohg’s Blood God)? The Godskin Apostles? A combination of all three?

Only time will tell.
