Are The Jets Actually Going To Pull Off Rodgers Trade?!?!

This would be the biggest trade in Jets franchise history if they could pull it off. The New York Jets management and ownership are reportedly flying out to see Packers QB Aaron Rodgers in an attempt to acquire the legendary quarterback.

I can’t believe this story has taken off as much as it has.

The New York Jets, a team so infamous for its QB blunders and failures, might actually be on the verge of acquiring Aaron Rodgers, one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, because the Green Bay Packers wants to replace him with Jordan Love, a 4th year quarterback with less than 5 games (as a starter) experience. I know it’s a little wordy, but does that sentence make sense to anyone?

Why are the Packers so insistent on replacing arguably the franchise’s best ever quarterback with not only an unproven 4th year player, but also one who is going to be 25 years old midway through next season. I’m not saying Love is bad or anything like that as we just simply don’t know his potential but handing over the keys to the franchise to an inexperienced, 24-year-old (who’s going to be 25 on November 2nd) QB seems like a bad idea to me.

I mean, there’s a reason (well, actual a few more than the one I listed) why Georgia QB Stetson Bennett (who is 25) is not projected to be drafted within the first three rounds, even though he’s the back-to-back National Title winning quarterback. He’s too old and not developed enough to be a consistent starter in this league…just like Jordan Love at this moment.

Yes, he was very good in relief for an injured Aaron Rodgers against the Eagles this season with his 113 passing yards, 1 TD, and 68% completion percentage, but those numbers should be taken with a grain of salt as he’s only played in 10 games (he’s only started 1 game). Simply put, in my humble opinion, Love is just too much of a risk to be named as a franchise quarterback at this point.

Hopefully, he’ll prove me wrong in the future and be one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, but I just don’t think that should happen in Green Bay when a very capable Aaron Rodgers is still on the team. Plus, the roster is in a “win-now” situation and would justifiably be upset if Love suddenly supplanted the 4X MVP Rodgers.

Green Bay’s management better figure this situation out and mend the relationship with Rodgers (if he’s going to come back another season) or else they might lose one last run at a Super Bowl.

As for the Jets, this development must have been the best thing they’ve done in the last decade.

Not only did the Green Bay Packers allow (yes, the Packers allowed this to happen) the Jets management and ownership to fly out to wherever Rodgers is staying and talk about a possible trade, but they also are in pole position to steal Rodgers right out from Green Bay’s nose. By the Packers allowing the Jets to pull off such a move, it signals to the rest of the league that Green Bay is now willing to trade Rodgers at any cost.

Instead of having to pay 2-3 1st round picks and a couple of roster players as one would expect for a quarterback of Rodgers’ caliber, the Jets and other teams interested in Rodgers might now only have to shell out a few early/mid round picks for the QB. It’s not like the Packers can ask too much more for Rodgers now they made it public they want to trade him.

It’s truly astonishing how the Jets might be able to pry away one of the greatest QBs in NFL history from one the greatest franchises without either having to give up the kitchen sink or that player being 45 years old.

These really are strange times.
