Oh God, Star Wars Is Going To Have A Rey Solo Movie…

Oh God, Star Wars Is Going To Have A Rey Solo Movie... (Disney/Lucasfilm-Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker-Teaser Trailer)

Is this a not-so subtle form of torture? Disney are once again trotting out the rotting carcass known as the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy as Rey, the main protagonist of the trilogy, is getting her own solo movie.

Man, Disney just won’t let the Sequel trilogy go, will they?

In perhaps what is the most divisive, corrosive, franchise-destroying, and downright bad trilogy of movies of all-time, the Star Wars Sequel trilogy is getting another run out by Disney and Lucasfilm as they have announced at Star Wars celebration week that Rey will be getting her own movie. Clearly, if you couldn’t tell by the tone of my words, I think this is an absolutely awful idea.

Disney has been doing its hardest to get the Star Wars fanbase away from the Sequel trilogy and back into the Prequels and the OG Trilogy as they have released content solely coming from both eras of Star Wars lore.

Ever since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker came out in late 2019, Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7 (2020), The Bad Batch (2021), Tales of the Jedi (2022), The Book of Boba Fett (2021), Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022), Andor (2022), and Ahsoka (coming August 2023) have/will all been/be shows that were/are set before the Sequel trilogy timeline, while The Mandalorian (2019), which came out a month before Rise of Skywalker, also was set before Episode 7.

Oh, and if you didn’t notice, not a single one of these Star Wars projects were movies as the visceral, toxic backlash the Sequel trilogy movies created against Disney Star Wars movies was so strong. That’s how bad the Sequel Trilogy is.

Yet, even though it’s only been four years since the that dreadful ninth film in the Skywalker saga (which is strange to say as the Sequel movies weren’t even really about the Skywalkers), Disney strangely decided now was the best time to announce that not only was Rey coming back into the franchise for a new movie, but also her movie would take place 15 years after the Sequel and have her be the one to reestablish the Jedi Order. Yay.

Okay, let me just say that I think Daisy Ridley is a good actress and doesn’t deserve the baggage that comes with the role of Rey as she seems like a nice person. Unfortunately for Ridley, Rey was written as an egregious Mary Sue and shoehorned into the Skywalker saga in the most ridiculous way possible (seriously, what was J.J. Abrams thinking making her Palpatine’s granddaughter?), which ended up being one of the main reasons why the Sequel trilogy failed.

Rey has no character, very little emotions, is a natural at practically every element of the force, suffers zero consequences, was never trained in the force but somehow is the greatest force wielder ever, defeats the most powerful force wielders in the galaxy (ex: Luke Skywalker, Kylo Ren, Darth Sidious) time and again, and is arbitrarily given the name Skywalkers like it is some sort of rank of office.

Skywalker is just a last name, not a cool Jedi rank one can adopt, J.J. Abrams!

I hate to say this, but Rey, and Daisey Ridley by default, should really stay as far away as possible. Unless this movie turns out to be the greatest Star Wars film of all-time, Rey and the Sequel trilogies’ presence back on our screens will only stoke those old flames of resentment, anger, outrage, and frustration in the hearts of Star Wars fans.

Having her be the one to restart the Jedi Order (which is the initial movie premise) and not Luke Skywalker in the Disney canon is such a massive insult to all Star Wars fans, regardless of whether or not they enjoyed the Sequel films. The whole saga is called the Skywalker Saga, not the Rey or Palpatine saga, and Luke Skywalker should never have been treated as some sort of senile, useless, cynical old fool.

He’s the Jedi that not only overthrew the Empire, but also turned Darth Vader back to the light!

I don’t want to get into my old criticizes of Episode 9, but the disrespect from Disney towards Luke Skywalkers’ legacy is still painful to acknowledge, and this movie essentially shoves that disrespect in everyone’s face.

I hope this movie is the best Star Wars film of all-time, but I have no faith in it.
