Euphoria Is Dead

Euphoria Is Dead (HBO/Warner Bros. Discovery-Euphoria-Cassie Has Never Ever Been Happier Clip)

This show isn’t coming back. All Euphoria fans are probably wearing all black right now as they mourn the death of the show due to the news of an indefinite hold on Season 3.

When you start out as purely a shock jock (or maybe junkie would be the appropriate word in this context) show, I guess this is what will inevitably happen to you.

Despite receiving multiple awards and mass attention over its two seasons, Euphoria seems to be destined for a permanent home in the T.V. show trash can as rumors of creative direction infighting and long waits have forced HBO to place the third season of the show on indefinite hold. And, when a show like this gets placed on hold for too long, it’s a sure sign the show’s ending.

Euphoria, the brief cultural phenomenon that saw its high come down even quicker than most of the drug use they glorify.

So, I don’t want to sound like I outright hate the show or think it’s a complete waste of time as that’s not the case. I don’t like it for it clearly glorifies drug abuse, physical abuse, and sexual abuse with minors and teenagers as the main protagonists, which is a serious issue in of itself. But some of the themes, which I feel the show stumbled into rather than intended to portray, do hold weight for many of the events, albeit in a far less glorified manner, happen in high schools today.

But this is not the reason why I’m writing this article.

No, the reason I’m writing the article is due to the fact HBO has officially placed the long-awaited third season of the show on indefinite hold as many of the major Hollywood outlets have reported creative infighting among the show heads, the time-sensitive nature of the story, controversy over the showrunner, and the previous departures and deaths of cast members.

As you can see, there’s just TOO MANY negative factors in the production of the third season for this show to realistically put together another season of actors, who are all approaching their 30s, to convincingly play characters in their late teens. That’s the biggest reason why this show won’t come back in my opinion, but the next biggest reason is all of the controversy.

From the surprising exit of Barbie Ferriera from the cast two years ago, the tragic passing of Angus Cloud last year (despite his character already being written out of the show), the frankly insane about of nudity and drug glorification in its scenes, and showrunner Samuel Levinson being really nothing more than a shock jock posing as a showrunner in my humble opinion, the show has been seeped in series-killing controversy since it’s last season came out in 2022.

In four years, a show about high school students has only had two seasons come out. That’s just not going to work as when you deal with age-sensitive topics, such as actors needing to look young enough to portray high school students, you need to get your show out as soon as possible.

And, when you give a useless showrunner like Samuel Levinson all the creative control, you’re going to end up with a show that not only can’t release on time, but also cares more for high shock scenes (just see what Sydney Sweeney or really any of the cast members have said about some of the scenes Levison devised which they pushed back on) than actual story and themes.

Then, when all of these factors get mixed in with strange firings and terrible tragedies, the show has just had too much derailment to ACTUALLY come back on air. And that’s why I think Euphoria is a zombie of a show.
