Out of all the trailers for the many shows, movies, etc. to come out of 2022 Comic-Con, the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever trailer was easily the most emotional and impactful one released. Better yet, I believe this movie will honor the legacy of Chadwick Bosman by being a massive hit!
Like the rest of the world in 2020, the Marvel Cinematic Universe suffered a horrendous loss when Black Panther star, Chadwick Boseman, sadly passed away from his battle with Stage 4 colon cancer. Chadwick Boseman truly was the Black Panther and embodied the fictional character’s strength, resilience, and perseverance as he fought that horrific battle in secret. Yes, as we all found out, none of Bosman’s Marvel costars knew about his diagnosis.
Even the president of Marvel, Kevin Fiege, didn’t know about Boseman’s illness until after his death as Boseman continued to film Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther, and Avengers: Endgame with the disease. That was how much of a warrior Chadwick Boseman was.
Yet, his death has left a gapping whole in the story of the Black Panther as Boseman (as King T’Challa) was set to feature heavily in Mavel’s Phase 4. So, what did Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s trailer tease? An emotional, fantastic new story honoring the memory of Chadwick Boseman.
Judging from the 2 minutes and 11 seconds of new footage, it is clear that T’Challa’s (Chadwick Boseman) family, friends, and subjects are still dealing with the tragic death of their king. Moreover, T’Challa’s mother, Ramonda (Angela Bassett), has become the Queen of Wakanda and looks to be struggling with the pressures of the outside world as more nefarious actors wish to exploit the remote African kingdom (and its vibranium).
Sadly, Queen Ramonda and the people of Wakanda are not going to be able to mourn the loss of King T’Challa for too long as (it seems) the chief actors wishing to exploit Wakanda will be the US military and an invading group of Na’vi from Avatar.
Well, it’s probably not the Na’vi, but this new group of people sure looks like them. Their pointed ears and blue skin would lead me to believe they are some kind of alien/elven species, though the only other “blue” Marvel species I know is the Kree. And it didn’t look like them at all. I guess we’ll see soon enough who these new enemies are.
Oh, before I forget, there was also a tease of a new person taking up the mantel of the Black Panther right as the trailer cut to the title sequence. If I had to guess (which I kind of do), I’d say that the new Black Panther is Shuri (Letitia Wright). It only makes sense for T’Challa’s sister to take up the mantel of her brother and father’s “Black Panther persona” and defend Wakanda against the US military (if it is them) and the new blue aliens.
I can safely say that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be another massive success for Marvel as the studio and film producers/directors/actors have handled Chadwick Bosman’s death perfectly. I can’t see this movie being anything less than another $1B dollar success!
