Around a month ago, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remake gameplay trailer was released. And it looked great. However, with the leaks and rumors about the COD Modern Warfare 2 remake being entirely different than the original game, I’m not sure what to think about this new COD game.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is one of the greatest Call of Duty games ever created, even with some of the, well, let’s just say campaign mistakes (cough…No Russian…cough) scattered throughout.
And the trailer for its remake looked just as spectacular.
Judging from the trailer, Activision and Infinity Ward will have delivered one of the most visually stunning games of 2022. Not only did the graphics look fantastic, but the shooting mechanics looked superb as well. From what I saw in the trailer, this game will definitely not feature any clunky or silly shooting animations that some modern games have been guilty of producing.
Anyway, the original Modern Warfare 2 followed up the arguably best Call of Duty game, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and it did so spectacularly.
Following the events of the original game, Modern Warfare 2 picks up were MW1 left off as the player assumes the role of Sergeant Gary Sanderson (known as Roach) and helps Captain Price’s Task Force 141 as they hunt down Russian extremist Vladimir Makarov, the primary antagonist.
The game is probably not as good as its predecessor, though that is only my opinion. Others may think MW2 is greater than MW1, which is a perfectly reasonable opinion too.
I guess these two games are the best depiction in the gaming community of the New Hope-Empire Strikes Back dilemma in the Star Wars community. Both movies are great and there is no real consensus as to which one is the best. Same applies to MW1 and MW2.
Yet, the remake is supposedly dropping (if some leaks are to be believed) the Russian World War 3 plot entirely. As seen in the gameplay trailer, the MW2 remake will still center around Task Force 141, Captain Price, and Roach, but with a twist.
The new game will feature around the Columbian Drug Cartels as the primary antagonists.
This move is an interesting one…especially with the current events. In truth, the Russian WW3 threat has never been greater than today, so I guess the original MW3 would have fit in nicely if it was released now.
Then again, it is probably for the best that Infinity Ward and Activision have changed the main antagonists to the Columbian Drug Cartels. Games are supposed to take you out of reality, not immerse you further in it after all.
My one fear with this new story is the writing. I just hope that the writers behind the MW2 remake will get this sequel right and deliver an awesome story to what looks like awesome graphics and gameplay mechanics.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 looks to be an unbelieve game, with amazing graphics, shooting mechanics, realistic world environments, interesting characters, and so much more.
My only fear is that the deviation away from the original’s storyline may prove too great a challenge as the COD writers might struggle to deliver a more captivating plot with the remake.
