We were all elated to see Daredevil coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe when Marvel CEO Kevin Feige unveiled the Phase 5 lineup at San Diego’s 2022 Comic-Con. However, the new show also caught everyone’s eye when it was announced that Season 1 was going to have 18 episodes.
An 18-episode Marvel T.V. show is unheard of as the traditional length of a recent Marvel show is six-ten episodes. In fact, Disney’s other mega-universe, Star Wars, has also somewhat followed that model too.
Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Mandalorian, Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7, and the Book of Boba Fett all come in at that six-ten-episode threshold, as did Wandavision, Loki, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Hawkeye, Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel.
Yet, Daredevil: Born Again is going to easily surpasses all of Marvel’s new shows as not only the biggest (in terms of episodes), but also as the most expansive story. With 18 episodes slated, there is sure to be many new twists, turns, and revelations in Matt Murdock’s rethought battle against Kingpin.
This show is not coming out for a while, as its release date was scheduled for Spring 2024, but that’s not going to stop me from making way-too-early guess/predictions as to which MCU characters are going to appear in Daredevil’s new adventure.
An easy guess to start is either Yelena Belova, Kate Bishop and/or Hawkeye. Or a combination of all three.
Kingpin, the main antagonist in Daredevil’s Netflix T.V. show, made a surprise appearance in Hawkeye’s Christmas-themed miniseries. With Hawkeye’s infamous past fighting the criminal organizations of the world, I can see him making an appearance alongside his new sidekick (sort of), Kate Bishop. Also, Yelena Belova is a notorious assassin, so it would make sense if she appeared in some capacity or another in Daredevil.
The Hulk or She-Hulk may even appear in the new series as Daredevil’s costume was briefly teased at the end of the latest She-Hulk: Attorney at Law trailer.
As for the story itself, I’m really torn on whether I want this Disney series to retell a brand-new Matt Murdock origin story or just use the preexisting Netflix story and build on from there. I’m almost positive that Disney will do a new origin story, but it would be a real shame if they don’t include at least some aspects of the Netflix adaptation.
Anyway, I’m really excited for this new Daredevil series. The Netflix’s show was one of the rare occasions of a superhero adaptation, not produced by either Warner Bros. or Disney, that turned out great. Hopefully, Marvel can expand upon this superhero’s amazing journey.
