Sadie Sink HAS BEEN ROBBED by not getting nominated for the Outstanding Supporting Actress for the 2022 Emmys! Nevertheless, there are still some great nominees that have been included.
How has Sadie Sink not been nominated by the Emmy voters for her performance as Max Mayfield in Stranger Things? I can’t remember in the past three years a young actress giving such a convincing, fantastic performance for a “supporting role”.
Sadie Sink, as Max Mayfield, took over the lead role of Stranger Things from characters such as Eleven, Mike, Hopper, Joyce, etc. from just her acting alone, sending the show to new emotional, dramatic, and tragic heights I didn’t think was possible.
That was how good she was.
Yet, she was not nominated, so I will leave it there (but I will have a hard time forgiving the Emmy voters for overlooking Sadie!).
Anyway, as for those who were nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress, it was Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria), Sarah Snook (Succession), J. Smith-Cameron (Succession), Rhea Seehorn (Better Call Saul), Christina Ricci (Yellowjackets), Jung Ho-yeon (Squid Games), Julia Gardner (Ozark), and Patricia Arquette (Severance).
Another stacked category. How the voters will be able to choose one of these actress’ performances as the best is beyond me. But someone has to win.
So, who then?
Well, I think that the strong favorite, Julia Gardner, won’t end up winning her third Emmy for Ruth Langmore in Ozark.
Due to the fact that she has already one twice, and that she is nominated for her role as Anna Delvey in Inventing Anna (which I hope she wins) for the Outstanding Actress in Limited Series category, I can’t see the voters giving her another win while there are other actresses who are just as deserving.
Okay, with Julia Gardner out of the picture, who else should be the frontrunners to win? I think it is a two-horse race between Jung Ho-yeon and Sydney Sweetney for the award.
This isn’t a slight against Sarah Snook, J. Smith-Cameron, Chirstina Ricci, or Patricia Arquette at all. They are all fantastic actress, but I think the voters will be swayed by Sydney Sweetney and Jung Ho-yeon performances.
Sydney Sweetney had a breakout season as an actress on Euphoria Season 2. She brought Cassie Howard to life with an emotional, realistic, and heartfelt performance that many have already acclaimed as one of the best acting performances of the year.
Some well-deserved recognition for Cassie, Euphoria, and Sweetney herself in the form of an Emmy would be more than appropriate.
It is a similar situation for Jung Ho-yeon. She and the whole cast and crew of Squid Game not only “raised the bar” of what can be expected from non-US made TV shows, but also took the world by storm. Squid Game was the biggest show on TV for well over half a year, back in September of 2021. Hopefully, the voters don’t forget that when they judge Jung Ho-yeon’s performance.
Plus, Jung Ho-yeon has already won the 2022 SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor for Squid Game, which was more than well deserved.
Squid Game would not have been the global phenomena that it was without her performance.
My “Darkhorse” for this category would have to be either Sarah Snook or J. Smith-Cameron. Both were great in Succession but will face the same issue: they were nominated for the same category while being in the same show. Unless your name is Peter Dinklage, no one ever wins when a costar also gets nominated for the same award.
So, will any of my predictions be correct? Probably not. Still can’t help but feel bad for Sadie Sink. She really deserved a nomination.
