I know that it is a little early theorizing for Stranger Things Season 5, but I’m going to do it anyway. With Season 4 having concluded only a week ago now, I can’t help but wonder how the Duffer Brothers plan on concluding this epic show.
Obviously, the grand battle between Eleven and her friends versus Vecna, the Mind Flayer, and the minions of the Upside Down will occur. Plus, I think it is almost guaranteed that Hawkins will not survive the battle. (I mean, it has practically already been destroyed with the mega-gate to the Upside Down being formed right in the center of the town)
Yet, what else is going to happen? Who is going to live? Who will die? Will Nancy end up with Steve or Jonathan? Will Max ever wake from her coma? What will happen to Eleven? And will any parent in this show finally start acting like an adult and stop having their kids fight inter-dimensional monsters?
I don’t know. But I can certainly guess. (Well, I do know that the answer to the last question is a resounding NO).
As to what will happen, I think it is obvious Vecna will personally led the hordes of Demogorgons, Demodogs, Demobats, and whatever else is in the Upside Down out from the gate and into Hawkins, leading to a massive battle between the army and the monsters.
I would also guess that the military, in particular Lieutenant Colonel Sullivan, will catch up to Eleven and detain her around the midway point of the season. Plus, I think this will have horrible consequences, as someone important will die because El can’t fight Vecna.
Anyway, before Sullivan can kill Eleven, I’m theorizing that she either escapes, convinces him to let her fight, Sullivan gets killed by the monsters, or a combination of all three.
Either way, Sullivan will somehow or another meet up with Eleven again.
Then, Eleven will fight against a stronger, angrier Vecna who will destroy Hawkins, kill a lot of people (main characters included), but eventual gets killed by Eleven before he can branch out to the rest of the US. This is kind of an obvious prediction, but it’s still early.
I’ll have to wait until Season 5 promotional material gets released.
As for who I’m most confident about living, I’ll say Joyce, Will, Jonathan, Dustin, Erika, Nancy, the Wheeler family, and Mike are the most likely people to survive the show. I just don’t see the show killing off entire families, such as Dustin’s, Erika’s, the Byers, etc. unless they were planning on killing the main characters from those families two.
However, I do think that the Wheelers (Ted, Karen, and Holly) might be in trouble. Vecna did show Nancy the future where he has destroyed Hawkins and killed her family. So, maybe those events will come to fruition?
Anyway, as to the people I’m almost positive will die, I think it will be Steve, Hopper, Murray, Vecna, Dr. Owens (if he is not already dead), Lieutenant Colonel Sullivan, Hawkins, the Upside Down gateway, the Upside Down monsters, a lot of US military, Officer Callahan, and Chief Powell.
I don’t think I need to explain Officer Callahan, Murray, Chief Powell, Hawkins, Vecna, the Upside Down gateway, the monsters, the US military, Dr. Owens, or Lieutenant Colonel Sullivan’s deaths all that much. All of these characters and settings’ arcs and purposes will be pointless after the season is over, so it only makes sense all of these people die before that happens.
Hopefully, Murray gets a great, heroic death scene protecting Joyce or Hopper.
As for Steve and Hopper, I think their character arcs have all but been concluded. These two have overcome their selfish and self-centered pasts to become true heroes. I believe Steve will die protecting either Nancy or Dustin, or even both. His redemption arc has been concluded for a while, and it may be time for the “King of Hawkins High” to give his life defending those he loves.
It is a similar story for Hopper. I believe he will either give his life to save Eleven or Joyce, or both.
With hindsight, it may have been better for Hopper to have died in Season 3. I think that death scene would have been SO much more meaningful and impactful to the show, rather than keep him around as a side character in Russia.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved his story in Season 4, but it really was filler in the grand scheme of Stranger Things’ plot.
For the show to progress, some major characters will need to die. Since neither Steve nor Hopper died last season, then I’m 99% sure one of the two (at the very least) will meet their ends in the final season.
As for who I think Nancy will end up with, I’m not sure she chooses either.
Like I mentioned earlier, I think Steve will die either saving Nancy or protecting the children in some way. I think that sacrifice will turn Nancy away from Jonathan as I don’t think his character has “matured” enough for her to wind up with him. She will still be mourning Steve and the life they could have had with one another if he lived.
Moreover, I’m guessing Eleven and Max’s fates will be intertwined for the final season. Along with trying to fight Vecna, I think El will try to wake Max up from her coma.
Will she be successful? I don’t know. Will Lucas somehow be involved in the process? Almost certainty. Will it cost him his life? Maybe. One of the kids from Season 1 is probably going to die next season so it may just be him. Or maybe Eleven will give her life saving Max. That would be a great way for her character arc to conclude too.
Therefore, the only way I see Max waking back up is if Eleven successfully” awakens her mind”, so to speak.
Okay, that’s enough predictions for now. I’m definitely 1000% wrong on most of this stuff I just said.
And, besides, Stranger Things Season 5 is so far off that making any more predictions now would be silly. We will just have to wait a year or two to find out.
