It is becoming impossible to decide who is going to win these 2022 Emmy categories! Everyone nominated is just that good. And it is the same story for the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama series category as Zendaya (Euphoria), Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Laura Linney (Ozark), Melainie Lynskey (Yellowjackets), Sandra Oh (Killing Eve), and Reece Witherspoon (The Morning Show) have all been nominated for the Emmy.
The two obvious choices are the past two winners: Zendaya and Jodie Comer. Jodie Comer won for her role as Villanelle in Ozark back in 2019, while she has also been nominated on two other occasions for the same role.
Zendaya won for her role as Rue Bennett in Euphoria back in 2020, and this is her second nomination for the same role. Obviously, these two actresses are supremely talented and are well deserving of the award if they win it. And, right now, I’d say it is a 50-50 chance that one of these two will win again.
Though, if I had to choose between these two, I’d say it is more likely Jodie Comer will win.
The final season of Killing Eve was released in April of this year and an Emmy win for one of the show’s best actresses would be a fitting sendoff. Though, an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Drama Series for Killing Eve would have been just as nice too. I guess the Emmy voters didn’t think so.
Anyway, I believe the Emmy is going to a different actress: Sandra Oh.
I know I have recently said that costars who are nominated for the same category never win, but this is a special occasion. Sandra Oh has been brilliant as Eve Polastri in Killing Eve and has been recognized for it. She has been nominated FOUR TIMES for playing Eve but has yet to win an Emmy for it.
That is more times than her Emmy-winning costar, Jodie Cormer. Plus, she has been consistently great as Eve for the entire duration of Killing Eve’s four-season story arc. Not even Jodie Cormer has been nominated as many times for her role as Villanelle as Sandra Oh for Eve.
I really think it would be fitting for Sandra Oh to finally win her first Emmy for her, arguably, most well-known role.
My “Darkhorse” for this race is Laura Linney. She has also been great as Wendy Byrde in Ozark, and this year’s release of Ozark Season 4 (the series’ final season) will also be her last time playing the character. Just like Sandra Oh, it would be fitting for her to finally win an Emmy after two unsuccessful nominations thus far.
Hopefully, I get these predictions right. But to be safe, I’ll revisit all my predictions the closer we get to the Emmy awards night.
