More Injuries For Patriots As They Appear Set For Horrifyingly Bad Season

I think I speak for every Pats fan when I say that we’ll be happy take a 9-8 or 8-9 record right now and call it a season. With the Patriots looking horrible in their final preseason game against the Raiders, and newly acquired RB Ty Montgomery going down with an injury, can this upcoming NFL season get any more ominous for the Pats?

The Patriots are going to be bad this season, though they might be even worse than I imagined. Their starting offense looked pedestrian against a backup Carolina defense in the second preseason game, and they looked downright dreadful against mix of starters and backups (mostly backups) against the Raiders last night.

To cap off the Patriots woes, they lost both CB Malcolm Butler (who they cut a few days ago) and RB Ty Montgomery (who’s being evaluated now) to injury.

Like I said, Malcolm Butler is gone. As for Ty Mongomery, it was his ankle that got injured. So, as long as it isn’t broken or fractured, hopefully he’ll be back in a few weeks. But, judging by the horrible luck that’s afflicted the Pats this offseason, I wouldn’t be surprised if this injury was more serious than it initially looked.

Meanwhile, Mac Jones hasn’t looked that great, despite a full year of the NFL under his belt.

He has completed just 13/21 (62%) of his passes, thrown for 132 yards, and has thrown two interceptions and zero touchdowns. In fact, the entire Patriots offense has only scored four touchdowns across the three games they have played. I know it’s just preseason, but even that’s not good enough. Even by preseason standards.

The loss of Josh Mcdaniels has definitely been felt by this offense as nobody looked in sync, even though they’ve been practicing with one another for over three months now. You’d think that every player on this team was an undrafted rookie just learning the playbook by the way they played against Las Vegas.

Again, I know it’s only preseason, but this “no offensive coordinator” scheme that Belichick has going on is backfiring…badly. With Josh Mcdaniels, the Patriots knew who was calling the plays, who to look to when things weren’t going right, and who to listen to when the game was on the line.

Mcdaniels was a legendary OC for New England, and players looked up to him.

Does anyone really think they’re doing that with Matt Patricia and Joe Judge? The two coaches that were both fired for putting out horrible teams with horrible gameplan schemes.

How did Bill Belichick really think it was a good idea to let these two be in charge of the offense, especially so given their extremely dodgy records?

Moreover, these guys weren’t even offensive-minded coordinators when they were on the Patriots before, which makes me question why Belichick gave them the non-official OC title even more.

To be honest, I’m getting worried that this unholy partnership may go down worse than the David Benioff an D.B. Weiss union on Game of Thrones Season 8.

Anyway, I guess I shouldn’t be questioning our Lord Ruler (see if you can guess that fantasy reference), Bill Belichick, right? He’s got everything under control, right? The Patriots will overcome these preseason struggles and wind up winning the AFC East division title against all the odds, RIGHT?

I guess we’ll have to wait and see, but I wouldn’t get your hopes up. Mine definitely aren’t.
