Someone in that writing room really wanted to write about a wedding. She-Hulk: Attorney At Law Episode 6 was nothing more than filler as the plot went nowhere, but it wasn’t as bad as some of its predecessors.
I think Jen Walters represented what I felt (and probably many others) about this episode when she said, “if you think this is happening at an inconvenient time in the season, you’re right.”
She Hulk is now in its closing stages, as they are only another three episodes left, and what does the show do? It gives us a meaningless, filler episode that doesn’t serve the plot in any meaningful way.
I still have got no idea what the over-arching narrative of She-Hulk is other than the fact that there are some trolls on the internet (in the She-Hulk world) that want her dead.
Are they a serious threat? Or are they what their name suggests: just trolls?
I’ve got no idea as all of the characters laugh off the threat, but the showrunners have put in some secret lab/weapon scenes that would indicate otherwise. Are these trolls working together with these secret lab coats? I’ve got no idea as all I know is that this episode main purpose was to tell me that Jen’s cousin is as self-absorbed as everyone else in this show.
Alright, being serious, I’ve grown to the point that I just don’t care about She-Hulk anymore. As I said during my preview of this show, I really wanted this show to be good and build on the legacy of Marvel’s Phases 1-4. The character She-Hulk had such great potential as her comedic, quirky personality from the comics could have fit in great with Marvel’s humorous tone.
Yet, there’s just nothing even remotely redeeming about this version of her. It’s not down to the actress, Tatania Maslany, as I think she’s doing a good job, but She-Hulk/Jen Walters is just not funny in this iteration of her.
Plus, her feud with Titania is just…boring. Unfortunately, she was the primary antagonist of this episode again. Can they really not think of a better villain for She-Hulk to go up against than a snobby, unfunny fashion designer?
Nonetheless, like I said, this episode actually wasn’t as bad as the past few have been. Don’t get me wrong, it still wasn’t great. But the sub plot was actually compelling for once…sort of.
In essence, Nikki Ramos and Amelia represent a guy called Mr. Immortal, who, as the name suggests, is immortal (though he actually should have been called Mr. Invincible as immortal only means one doesn’t age). Thus, using his immortality, he would go around and marry all sorts of woman (and a man) and when they bored him, he just ‘kill himself’ and get cause for a divorce on the account that he was ‘dead’.
I don’t know why but I thought it was a funny, unique storyline. Though, I wish the character of Mr. Immortal was introduced as a villain for a different superhero as in She-Hulk he was reduced to a bumbling charlatan.
With the right writing and backstory, the idea of a ‘Mr. Immortal’ as a villain could be pretty compelling.
Anyway, She-Hulk: Attorney At Law Episode 6 gets a 6.0/10 simply for Mr. Immortal and that I’m now apathetic for this show. Thank goodness there’s only three episodes left.
