She-Hulk Episode 7 Review: A (Mostly) Boring Retreat With The Abomination

She-Hulk: Attorney At Law (Disney/Marvel-She-Hulk: Attorney At Law-Apologize Clip)

I didn’t know that you could actually make Tim Roth boring, but here we are. She-Hulk Episode 7 was yet ANOTHER boring episode that had two decent moments, but the rest vaguely moved the plot forward (if there even is a plot to this show).

In those first 5 or so minutes of the episode, I couldn’t believe what I was watching. Jen Walters was actually getting some character development with another male character that was not a caricature as Jen finally found someone that liked her for who she was.

It was nice to finally see some normal human interaction, which has been sorely lacking in the previous six episodes, between two characters on this show as Jen Walters finally seemed to connect and interact with someone that isn’t her already established best friend or her boss.

But then the show took a huge detour down 1 Abomination Way (that’s not really something in the show, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it was) that once again derailed this show’s plot.

I get that this is a comedy/sitcom that has a loose plot, but why are the showrunners so insistent on writing Jen Walters and She-Hulk into these irrelevant, unnecessary situations and locations that serve nothing to the overarching plot.

Plus, they’re incredibly boring places.

Essentially, after getting stuck on Emil Blonsky’s retreat property because her car broke down, Jen spends the whole episode trying to connect with Josh, the man she has formed a bond with, but is unable to as there is no cell reception.

Yup, that’s it. Oh, I should mention that Blonsky spends the entire episode nipping at Jen’s heels to get her to join his focus/AA group for the lamest, most annoying ‘super villains’ (in truth, there’s nothing ‘super’ or ‘villainous’ about them) you’ll ever see in the MCU.

Who’s in this group? Well, there’s a chilled-out Abomination, a horrific CGI man-bull, a dull Matador with a bio-energetic sword, a guy who never baths and dresses up as a porcupine, someone who claims to be a vampire, and the wimpy leader of the group of thugs that attacked Jen a few episodes ago.

Yeah, what an inspiring team to watch.

Nevertheless, there was another good moment with Jen Walters opening up about her struggles with her dual identity of She-Hulk and Jen Walters as she believes that she’s ‘cheating’/living a lie while being the She-Hulk. Now, if Jen’s struggles with being She-Hulk was actually explored on this show, this would have been a great scene.

However, this show has only ever shown Jen using She-Hulk to attract guys (such as that dating app profile), so the scene seemed a little shallow and contrived by the writers. It’s a good message but said by the wrong character in the wrong moment in this series.

Anyway, Jen eventually gets a ride away from Blonsky’s retreat and the episode cuts to black…only to show a flashback to the night when Josh last saw Jen.

It’s revealed that Josh was working with this mysterious, little-developed scientist group and was able to steal Jen’s blood and phone data while she slept. Jen really does have AWFUL luck with guys.

This episode may have been one of the most boring pieces of content Marvel has ever released, but it did at least have some character development for the titular character.

She-Hulk Episode 7 gets a 6.0/10. Thank goodness there’s only two episodes left.

(PS: Is it just me or was the CGI in this episode really bad? It was almost unwatchable at times.)
