The Mandalorian Season 3 Trailer: Are We Going To See A Second Mandalorian War?

The Mandalorian (Disney/Star Wars-The Mandalorian-Season 3 Teaser Trailer)

I sure hope we see some live-action Mandalorians duking it out on their desolated home world. The first The Mandalorian: Season 3 trailer has dropped at D23, and it appeared to show Mando fighting his brethren on his home world of Mandalore.

Well, it seems Mando and Grogu are going on yet another adventure together. I thought the harrowing story of love, responsibility, honor, and compassion between the hardened bounty hunter, Din Djarin, and his bounty-turned-adopted son, Grogu, ended on a perfect note at the end of Season 2.

I found that the nature of Grogu’s force abilities and lifespan (which is approximately 1,000 years or so) was always going to separate the Mandalorian and ‘Baby Yoda’.

How was a Mandalorian, who has a normal human life span, going to care for a baby that wouldn’t be able to provide for himself for another 100 or so years? Plus, how was he going to hide and protect Grogu’s force abilities, especially when malicious entities (such as the remnants of the Empire) came looking for him?

Leaving him with Luke Skywalker was the best possible solution for protecting Grogu, even though it was extremely hard and emotional for Mando to leave his traveling companion. In fact, the end of Season 2 was a great conclusion not only thematically, but also for the characters and this story as a whole.

Not every story needs to have 5-7 seasons of material to be a great one. Sometimes the best stories are the ones that are short and conclude on an emotional, yet succinct, note.

But, who am I kidding, this is Disney we’re talking about. And, of course, given how successful the show was, they were going to drag out the Mandalorian storyline.

And that’s why we are getting a Season 3.

Alright, enough of my complaining and melodramatic commentary. I need to talk about the fantastic action shots of Mandalorians battling it out with one another in the new trailer.

Judging by the trailer, Mando and Grogu appeared to have left Boba Fett and his criminal underworld and journeyed back to Mandalore (or at least what I think is Mandalore).

The shots of sharp, jettisoning rocks mixed in with ruined, bombarded cities has to be the remnants of Mandalore after the Empire’s utter destruction of the place. It’s going to be super exciting to see how the place that was once defined by beautiful, glass-based structures and strong-angled architecture we saw in the Clone Wars has changed into the desolate wasteland that the survivors of the Empire’s purge now call home.

I really enjoyed the Clone Wars episodes that took place on Mandalore (as I’m sure many others did too), so it’ll be pretty sad to see how depressing the place has become.

Anyway, there was also a few shots of Bo-Katan (one of my favorite Clone Wars characters) in what looked like her sister’s, Duchess Satine Kryze, old throne room.

Seeing as how Bo-Katan needs to defeat Mando in single combat to obtain the Darksaber and become the rightful ruler of Mandalore, it’s probably not the best idea for Mando to head there. But, maybe she’s calmed down a little about the saber since we last saw her.

Finally, the villains of this season appear to be Mando’s old gang of helmet-obsessed Mandalorians. There were a few voice-over lines of The Armorer (which I think are new) admonishing Din’s decision to remove his helmet over a battle scene between two groups of Mandalorians.

If I had to guess, I’d day that one of the central storylines of the season is going to be Mando and Bo-Katan fighting against Mando’s old ‘This Is The Way’ cult as they will seek to overthrow Bo-Katan as ruler of the ashes of Mandalore.

However the season plays out, I’m glad we are finally seeing Grogu and Mando again. The Mandalorian is the best thing to come out of Disney’s reign over Star Wars and I’m more than excited to see this unexpected pair to team up once again, even if their story really should have ended by now.
