Well, I didn’t expect a studio/company other than Bethesda to remaster an Elder Scroll game, but I’m glad one has. NVIDA has announced its newest, revolutionary graphic-enhancing technology release, the RTX Remix, by showcasing a remastered Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind!
How I didn’t hear about this sooner is beyond me. Not only is the Elder Scrolls franchise one of my favorite video gaming franchises, but Morrowind is also one of my favorite games.
Sure, it’s very difficult to play now, considering it is now over 20 years old, and most of the technological achievements of the game from back in the early 2000’s are archaically outdated in the modern video gaming world.
But that doesn’t mean everything in the game is. In my humble opinion, the Morrowind storyline is not only the best one Bethesda has created to date, but is also arguably one of the greatest in RPG history.
The story of a mythical hero of a long oppressed, nomadic people reincarnated by a divine being set with the purpose to overthrow the three god-like beings of Morrowind that slew said hero thousands of years ago, while also tasked with defeating a crazed, immortal madman that not only wants to free Morrowind of the Empire of Tamerial’s grasp, but also take the place of the three deity-like figures.
Along this journey, said reincarnated hero will end up discovering the nuisances and complexities of the political, environmental, cultural, and religious climates of the present day Morrowind and Dunmer people who inhabit the land, while also being able to hear out, listen, sympathize, and even grow to respect the three god-like beings, the Imperial authorities, and even the crazed demi-god himself as the hero must make the ultimate decision: who to trust and who to defeat.
Is there any other RPG story that gets any better than that? I don’t think so.
And that is why I’m super excited about this new NVIDIA release.
Judging by the video IGN uploaded about this new technology, nearly all of the outdated graphics of Morrowind can be replaced with fresh, 2022 enhanced versions through revolutionary, image-capturing tech.
Even better, this new technology also allows both professional modders and regular gamers the ability to change the make-up of any object they wish.
For example, the video from IGN showed that through already established 3D-image designing platforms, such as NVIDIA Omniverse or Maya Software, it’s possible to reshape the models of objects in Morrowind, such as tables, chairs, bookshelves, plates, etc., to however the user wishes. It’s honestly incredible what NVIDIA has created.
Now, the only downside for a game like Morrowind is that the character models still seem to be stuck in their 2002 builds, while user-interface systems, such as combat, magic, dialogue, etc., also have yet to be updated.
But that’s why we have modders, right.
