Nets Really Need To Trade KD…

The Nets really need to blow everything up and start over. The Brooklyn Nets fiasco continues to grow larger and more volatile as the day go by as now Kevin Durant has come out and openly criticized his teammates by name, even saying that it’s impossible to win with them.

The KD-Kyrie experiment has been a colossal failure of epic proportions. And I mean EPIC PROPORTIONS!

Not a single thing that could have gone right for this team has gone right as they not only have failed to even reach a Conference Finals in the four years since KD and Kyrie have been together, but they also have missed more games than they have played for the Nets. Essentially, Joe Tsai and Sean Marks have paid Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant to do nothing but miss dozens of games per season and lose the ones they have played in.

This pairing might actually be the very worst superstar duo in NBA history when it finally comes to an end after this season. And it definitely will as there is no way Kyrie Irving is resigning with the Nets after his controversies, while the Nets should just cut their losses on Kevin Durant and trade him for as much as they can get.

Even though Kevin Durant has been his hall-of-fame self for the vast majority of the time he’s been in Brooklyn, his Nets teams have been anything other than ‘Hall-of-Fame worthy’. Apart from that epic Second Round series versus the Milwaukee Bucks back in 2018/19, the Nets have only made the playoff one other time (when they got swept by the Celtics last season) and missed the playoffs entirely in the first year of the duo’s existence.

Though, it seems that they will suffer the same fate this season as they currently sit 6-9, 12th place in the East, and need to leapfrog the 76ers, the Heat, and the Bulls to just squeeze into the Play-In Round. Clearly, that’s a longshot and is indicative as to how poorly Sean Marks and Joe Tsai have run this franchise.

They could have gotten 5+ 1st-round picks, a young superstar, and multiple decent role players for Kevin Durant this offseason, which would have helped quicken the inevitable rebuild Brooklyn will enter once this season ends.

I mean, can you imagine the Brooklyn Nets with Bam Abebayo/Jaylen Brown/Deandre Ayton, a score of unprotected 1st-round picks, and a half dozen decent, capable role players going into the future? That team would have been awesome as they not only would have gotten a few high draft picks to build a new championship-contending core around, but they also would have had proven NBA All-Stars to help these young players along.

Does anyone really believe that KD or Kyrie will stick around during this imminent Nets rebuild to help mentor the young players? Of course not!

That’s why the Nets should just trade KD right now as his value on the market is still high, though not nearly as great as it was during the offseason. Perhaps the Nets will be able to pick up 3-5 1st round picks and a young superstar in return for Durant from a contender, such as the Miami Heat or the Phoenix Suns, but even that’s now a stretch.

The Suns are battling for 1st place in the Western Conference without the need of Durant, while the Miami Heat are just now getting warmed up after a slow start to the season. Neither team wants to (or should) destroy their rosters for KD.

And, unfortunately for Brooklyn, that means that they’ll be stuck with Durant and Irving for the rest of the season.

As for KDs comments, they’re 100% correct. How is he supposed to win a championship if he’s surrounded by Joe Harris, Ben Simmons, Royce O’Neale, Edmond Sumner, and Nic Claxton? He’s not, but that still doesn’t mean he should have said it out loud.

Man, what a mess the Nets are in.
