Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 Trailer Was Just As Depressing As Expected... (Disney/Marvel-Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3-Official Trailer)

What else could you expect from the conclusion of the trilogy. The Guardians of the Galaxy 3 trailer dropped today, and it was as depressing and melancholy as everyone expected with a majority of the cast confirmed to leave the MCU shortly after.

Out of all of the wacky Marvel projects and characters to have surprisingly succeeded, Guardians of the Galaxy is definitely at the top of that list. And deservedly so.

Never really one of the most popular casts of Marvel characters from the legendary comics, the cast (ie: Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Baustista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan) and crew (ie: director James Gunn) behind the original Guardians of the Galaxy movie completely blew all its expectations out of the water with extremely funny, witty, heartwarming, satirical, and emotional 2015 movie that put the Guardians on the map.

Then, in 2017, the cast and crew followed up their smashing success with another fantastic, extremely funny and emotional adventure that allowed us to gain a better understanding into the characters and the larger Marvel Universe around then. Finally, the conclusion to the Avengers saga (Infinity War and Endgame) capped off the Guardian’s story arcs by weaving their fate with that of the entire MCU as they helped defeat Thanos and stop him from destroying half of the universe. Again.

Oh, and there was that Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday thing that came out a few days ago, but we’ll just forget about that for now.

Anyway, back to what I was saying, it looks like this is going to be the end for the Guardians as we know it as this trailer was filled with emotional ‘one last adventure’ type of imagery and soundbites. And that’s mainly down to the fact that major characters and their actors will be exiting the MCU after this edition, such as Chris Pine, Dave Bautista, and Zoe Saldana.

Now, I’m not going to go through the trailer scene by scene as that would be tedious, but I will point out a few major moments that caught my eye.

First, what planet did the Guardians venture to in the opening shots of the trailer. It looked like a pseudo-Earth that was inhabited with humanoid-like creatures, yet their heads were replaced with different animal ones. To be honest, it was actually a little creepy, though it was funny when Drax absolutely annihilated a kid with a kick ball.

Plus, it was also strange to not see Gamora with the Guardians anymore and working on her own (for the most part) as it has been some time since we’ve last seen her in a major Marvel film.

Anywho, like I said earlier, this trailer was mainly focused with the idea of the Guardians coming to terms with their past and their willingness to face down their former troubles, which obviously only means one thing: they’re all going to die.

It’s just classic movie making to have this emotional, inspiring, melancholy trailer with the main character talking about their past and how they are ‘done with running away’ to die overcoming to the very same issue they have struggled with. I’ve got no idea what that issue may be for all of them, though it was clear that Rocket will finally face the people who turned him into the cybernetic racoon that we see him as.

As for another interesting scene, it appears that the Guardians will be either imprisoned or fighting some group stationed on an organism-like planet as it was featured in this short teaser trailer today.

There wasn’t much else to really dissect other than a few 3-second shots of Groot, pre-GG1 Gamora, Star Lord, Rocket, Mantis, Drax, etc., so we’ll have to wait for the main trailer to come out for more story details. Nevertheless, it’ll be both great and sad to see the final (I’m guessing) instalment of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy when it comes out next year.
