Sean McVay Is STAYING Rams HC For 2023 Season

Were all of those press conferences really just McVay’s public therapy sessions? Despite acting like he was leaving LA on the next flight out, Sean McVay has decided to STAY as the Rams HC for another season.

What was the point of all of those press conferences lamenting the future if you were just going to come back anyways, Sean?

This is definitely the most surprising thing that’s happened in the NFL this week as despite going 5-12 and seemingly fallen out of love of coaching the Rams organization, Sean McVay out of nowhere decided to return for one more season. Now, I applaud him for screwing his head back on straight in the days between his last melancholy press conference and the announcement today as if he left this Rams team, he would regret his decision forever.

Not only are the Rams NOT in a rebuild (despite what everyone is saying) as they were so bad this season mainly due to injuries, but he would also ruin all of the goodwill he created with the fans and the city of Los Angeles if he abandoned them in their hour of need. It just would have been a horrible look to see McVay sign a contract extension when everything is going great with Super Bowl and NFC West wins and then leave at the first sign of trouble when injuries and a bad season hits.

So, like I said, I’m glad McVay saw reason and stayed as now he can RETOOL (not rebuild) this Super Bowl winning Rams roster for next season. Sure, they don’t have the 6th overall pick as their 5-12 record dictates due to the Matthew Stafford trade with the Lions last offseason, but there are still Hall of Fame caliber players on this roster to compete at the highest level.

Aaron Donald, Cooper Kupp, Matthew Stafford, Brian Allen, Alaric Jackson, David Edwards, Joe Noteboom, Logan Bruss, Tremayne Anchrum Jr., Nick Scott, Jalen Ramsey, Allen Robinson II, and A’Shauwn Robinson are just some of the players who will come to next year’s training camp either recovered from an injury or a surgery. You don’t need me to tell you that losing the names on that list would derail any team in the league, let alone one with the expectations the Rams had.

Plus, when you see all of the injuries the Rams have suffered, I don’t see how people in the media can say that this team needs a rebuild. What they need is more depth, which is exactly what McVay and the Rams management can address in the draft and free agent market. Yes, they don’t have the cap space for the big-time free agents, but those aren’t the players they need.

They need the everyday, fill-in guys that come with low expectations and low prices when the starters get hurt.

If the Rams are able to get those players in free agency and the draft, then I don’t see how they don’t make it back to the playoffs next season under another year of Sean McVay’s tutelage. Winning the Super Bowl might be out of reach, but I thought the same thing a year ago when the Rams actually did go on to win the Lombardi Trophy.
