Cowboys Trade For Brandin Cooks Matches NFL History!

It’s kind of funny how many times this guy has been moved throughout his career. In an attempt to add to their WR core, the Dallas Cowboys have brought in Texan WR Brandin Cooks in a trade that matched NFL history!

Has there ever been a player in NFL more synonymous to the word “journeyman”? Well, probably not as Brandin Cooks has just become the joint-highest traded player in NFL history.

Yes, you read that right. Brandin Cooks, one of the better wide receivers in the NFL these last ten years, has just made history as being the joint-most traded player ever as the Cowboys are now his fourth team in the last seven years. Pretty neat, right?

Equaling the record of legendary Rams RB Eric Dickerson (who was obviously also traded four times in his career), Cooks was traded from the New Orleans Saints to the New England Patriots in 2017 (he lost Super Bowl 52 vs. Eagles), he was traded from the Patriots to the Rams in 2018 (he lost Super Bowl 53 vs. Patriots), he was shipped out of LA in 2020 to the Houston Texans, and now he’s just been transferred cross-state from Houston, Texas to Dallas, Texas as he’s now the newest member of the Cowboys.

Now, this really isn’t that big of a trade in terms of the pieces being moved around as the Cowboys only gave up a 2023 5th round pick and a 2024 6th round pick to get the highly sought after receiver.

Obviously, Cooks should be extremely useful in this revamped Dallas offense as he not only can still get down the field and be a deep-threat target at the age of 29, but he also is coming off a season where he had 57 REC, 699 yards, and 3 TDs in just 13 games.

Oh, and he also was plying his trade on a Texans team that finished dead last in the AFC South, had a horrific record of 3-13-1, was starting second year QB David Mills, and is currently #2 overall in the NFL draft selection. So, in other words, he was playing for a crap team and still nearly broke 60 REC and 700 yards while missing four games due to injury.

Still, as for the phenomena that has become of Brandin Cook’s career, it’s kind of strange to see a WR that has not only been valued worth multiple 1st round picks and high-end draft picks in trade compensation, but also one who’s put up career stats of 630 REC, 8,616 yards, 49 TDs, 6 1,000+ yard seasons (including 4 straight), and has helped guide two franchises to the Super Bowl get traded so often.

You’d think some team would lock him down for a 5+ seasons with those kinds of stats, but I guess not.

Anywho, congratulations, Brandin Cooks, you’ve just made NFL history by being the most sought-after wide receiver ever.
