This game desperately needs to have more work done on it. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has wisely decided to delay Suicide Squad: KTJL for another eight months as the unveiling trailers were woefully bad.
This game was going to be a MASSIVE, GUARENTEED DUD if Warner Bros. didn’t act immediately.
Despite releasing a State of Play trailer and a confirmed May 26th release date, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and developer Rocksteady have chosen to delay Suicide Squad: KTJL for another eight months and release the game on February 2nd of 2024 as the fan backlash to the game was overwhelming. And, thankfully, Warner Bros. and Rocksteady actually listened to the fans.
Obviously, this game getting delayed for another eight months doesn’t mean it’s going to be turned into the next Game of the Year winner, but it does ensure that we won’t be getting a half-assed, lazy, worthless game plagued with bugs, glitches, and microtransactions.
Well, at least it ensures we won’t be getting a half-assed, lazy, worthless video game plagued with bugs, glitches, and microtransactions on May 26th to ruin our summers.
Okay, being serious, I don’t have much hope this game will get all that much better than what we saw during the PlayStation State of Play showcase as this game has already been in development for the last 5-6 years (at least), and much of the key concepts, gameplay choices, and level designs won’t be altered.
Having only eight months to completely recode, redesign, relevel, and essentially rethink a video game is simply undoable…if you want the game to not end up a steaming pile of hot garbage. So, even though the concept of having the Suicide Squad face off against Brainiac-controlled superheroes is awesome, I think this game will end up as woeful as the original movie it’s based on.
Nevertheless, since there’s still a small 1% chance this game could actually be made into something special with the added eight months of development, I actually applaud Warner Bros. and Rocksteady taking in all the massive fan backlash and disappointment and attempting to correct their errors.
It would have been far easier to just push this game out as fast as possible while the hype and attention on it was still strong, and then flood it with hundreds of microtransactions to make up for the poor sales this game would have had if released in its current state. That’s what EA did with Star Wars: Battlefront 2.
Again, as I said, thankfully the executives over at Rocksteady and Warner Bros. aren’t the obnoxiously greedy, ruthless, and despicable characters that manage EA, so they actually listened to the fans and promised to “getting the game to be the best quality experience for players” as stated in the official statement.
Maybe they’ll heavily reduce the amount of live-service content present in the game, or perhaps add more flexibility to the leveling system and the “gear score” system.
I guess we’ll see if that actually comes to pass.
Anyways, I highly doubt this game will live up to its legendary Arkham predecessors as those games will go down as some of the best in the history of video games, but maybe Suicide Squad: KTJL can rebound and be a really fun, compelling, PVE.
Maybe.
