Can this please be the last season? Netflix has just dropped the first teaser trailer for The Witcher Season 3, and it looks like the abomination every has expected.
Will Netflix please just end this show as I’m not watching without Henry Cavil as Geralt.
The Witcher Season 3, the T.V. show everyone was so thrilled about returning to our screens, has just had its first teaser trailer of the new season release, and it looks to be just as bad as everyone thinks it will be. And it’s all the fault of The Witcher writers and showrunner Lauren Schmidt-Hissrich.
I don’t want to get into the ridiculous behind-the-scenes drama that this show has unfortunately suffered from…right now, but I can’t help to point out how all of the negativity, anger, and disappointment surrounding this show could have been avoided if the writers and Schmidt-Hissrich had just stuck with the source material.
There’s not a single soul alive that wanted these idiotic writers, who have been blasted for not even liking the source material to begin with by one of their former writers, to change up the source material for their own substandard, stupid, idiotic, and downright disrespectful character choices and plot lines.
Yet, more importantly, Henry Cavil, who was obviously the lead draw for this show as the titular character Geralt of Rivia, was one of the most ardent opponents to these writers’ sick machinations behind the scenes, and the drastic change to Geralt, Ciri, Yennefer, the Witcher School of the Wolf, Vesemir, etc. from the book series is what supposedly forced him to leave the show. And I don’t blame him one bit as last season was an utter travesty.
Aside from S2 Episode 1 (which was pretty much directly adapted from one of author Andrzej Sapkowski’s short stories), the rest of the season was a chaotic, illogical mess that not only insulted the intelligence of the characters on-screen, but also treated the audience watching as if they were mindless donuts.
I mean, how are we supposed to believe that Yennefer and Ciri have a mother-daughter bond (as they do in the novels and video games) if Yennefer spent the whole season trying to ritualistically sacrifice Ciri to get her powers back. Or how about Geralt and Yennefer’s relationship? How is Geralt ever going to even look at Yennefer, let alone fully trust and love her, after she tried killing his surrogate daughter?
Oh, and what about the whole Redania-Nilfgaard-Aen Seidhe Elf plotline?
The whole reason why the Thanedd Coup plotline, which was featured in this trailer as the island castle, was even possible in first place was due to Emperor Emhyr var Emreis using the Aen Seide elves (aka: The Scoia’tael) and Vilgefortz to capture Ciri and destroy the Northern mages in the first place.
Now that Francesca Findabair, who was not the initial leader of the Scoia’tael in the books (yet was an influential figure) but was in the show, has betrayed Nilfgaard and decided to slaughter all the male babies in Redania, making her animosity to the North known, how is this plot going to make sense?
Will Vilgefortz just defeat the entire conclave of sorcerers and sorceresses by himself? That’d be ridiculous as these are dozens of the best mages in the world all teaming up against him.
And, what about Cahir? He was imprisoned by Emhyr for some strange reason (because he went along with a mage that had the power to stop time and kill him, and that’s a crime?) at the end of Season 2, but he played a huge role in Ciri’s near-capture at the Coup and later on in the novels trying to save her. How’s he going to do that now he’s a prisoner?
Lastly, why in the world are the Wild Hunt being introduced now?!?!?
Not only are the Aen Elle Elves (the Elves that the Wild Hunt come from) introduced much later in the story, but they also don’t play nearly as imposing/obviously evil role at this stage of the story.
I don’t want to spoil the story for anyone who hasn’t read the books yet, but I’ll just say that the Aen Elle Elves were far calmer and more composed when treating with Ciri than portrayed in the T.V. show.
This show is just really bad fanfiction that doesn’t deserve to waste anymore of our time. I may watch it out of respect for Henry Cavil, but there’s no chance I’m watching Season 4 or any other seasons Netflix has conjured up.
