I feel like this news is too good to be true. Rockstar might actually be finally remaking Red Dead Redemption as the South Korea Game Rating and Administration Committee might have accidentally leaked the existence of an RDR1 remaster.
I really want to believe this is true, but I just don’t know if Rockstar even cares about the OG game anymore.
In what is becoming a funny trend for the South Korea Game Rating and Administration Committee (GRAC), the board might have revealed Rockstar’s plans of remastering/remaking the original Red Dead Redemption title as they posted a brand-new 18+ rating for the game…even though the original rating is still on the website. And, as every Rockstar and Red Dead fan would tell you, this might be the best news we’ve heard all year long.
Of course, Red Dead Redemption 2 did everything the original title presented, took it up by a factor of 15, and then added even more content on top of that as it will go down as one of the greatest games to have ever been made, let alone in the Red Dead franchise. Still, the original title putting us in the shoes of John Marston as he tries to save his family from the dastardly Agent Ross of the FBI by hunting down the remaining members of his old gang, the Van Der Linde Gang.
For being a title that came out in 2010, it really is one of the most remarkable games I’ve ever played as it has so much nuance, character, and dedication to the story of John Marston, the Van Der Linde Gang, and the Red Dead universe, while also being one of the best technical games on the market at the time. Perhaps I’m in the minority on this one, but I loved the gunplay, combat, horse mechanics, and open world exploration that Rockstar made even greater in the sequel.
Then, of course, the Undead Nightmare DLC is one of the Top-5 greatest DLCs to have ever been released as it adds some extremely creative, complex, and downright hilarious features that you just can’t put in the base game.
However, seeing as how it’s been 13 years since the release of RDR1 and the huge technological advancements since the game came out, most people would have expected Rockstar to make a port or remaster of the game a little sooner than today. But, that just hasn’t been the case as there’s not only no remaster or remake, but there’s also been very little rumors or chatter about a remaster of the game.
That’s kind of expected from a company as secretive as Rockstar, but it’s still a little disheartening to not hear even the slightest hint of a rumor about the game being remastered. Until today.
Obviously, this leak from the GRAC doesn’t mean the game is getting remastered anytime soon or even at all, but it’s very weird why Rockstar would submit a brand-new rating for a game that’s going to be 15 years old two years from now. Moreover, it also makes no sense why they’d be submitting a new rating for a game that’s not only already had 5 ratings for its different releases, but also doesn’t have a new release publicly planned.
I’d be lying if I said I knew the ins and outs of the GRAC apart from the fact they also spoiled COD: Modern Warfare 2’s remaster before Activision officially announced it, but the website and functional purpose of the board seems like it only uploads game ratings that are set to come out.
And, that would obviously mean there’s going to be a new Red Dead Redemption…right?
To be honest, I’ve got no idea as nothing is certain about Rockstar and games they may or may not be making.
