The overpaid, greedy elites are now at each other’s throats! In union with the Writers Guild, now the Screen Actors Guild has gone on full strike over their pay and compensation against the major studios of Hollywood, shutting down the film industry!
This is an unprecedented strike…of overpaid, overhyped, and out-of-touch elites fighting against another group of overpaid, overhyped, and out-of-touch elites.
In a shocking turn of events, the bargaining negotiations between the major entertainment studios of Hollywood, such as Disney, Netflix, Warner Bros., and Paramount, and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) have completely collapsed and the 160k guild members have all gone on strike, leaving the movie industry in utter chaos. And, even though I sympathize with certain portions (aka: the middle class and hard-working actors) and complaints given by the SAG members, I just find this to be a pathetic display of greedy elites being even more greedy.
Okay, before I get into my criticisms over the Hollywood elites get down in the mud and fighting one another tooth and nail for an extra dollar, let me just say that I fully support the SAG and WGA (Writers Guild of America) over the use of AI in films if what they protest the major Hollywood studios are plan on doing is true.
If these guilds are truthful, then the major studios plan on scanning every actor’s face, pay them for a day’s work, own their likeness for eternity, and then use their face for films and projects that said actors may or may not agree with. With zero oversight or care for the wishes of the actors and fans alike.
Again, if this is true, then that’s utterly abhorrent and completely against the spirt of filmmaking and the actor’s individual rights as using their likeness for films they may not have even agreed to appear in or if they’ve passed away is just morally and ethically wrong, while also being antithetical to the art of creativity and filmmaking.
But that’s the only part I agree with these unions on.
These unions of elitists and snobby Hollywood buffoons, who make movies for a living and get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in doing so, really have the nerve to say they live under repressive, unsafe working conditions and don’t get paid enough money? I’m sorry, but who are you trying to fool here?
Do you really think anyone believes you people, who are getting paid on average of $166k/year (actors, according to Hollywood Actor Salary – July 2023 (comparably.com))Â and $260k/year (writers, according to Top Hollywood exec made $498 million in 5 years while writer pay fell (cnbc.com)), respectively, are living horrible lives or are getting shafted for you “hard labor”? Seriously?
Yes, of course, the top executives of these Hollywood entertainment studios are getting an obscene amount of money for literally nothing given the state of affairs most of these companies are in, but that doesn’t mean you guys should also be making $100M/year for FAILING AT YOUR JOBS!
YOU ALL SHOULD BE MAKING LESS MONEY FOR THE CRAP PRODUCTS YOU KEEP MAKING!
According to the critics on Rotten Tomatoes, of the 163 Hollywood films to come out in 2023, only 62 of them scored an 80% or higher. That’s just 38% of all professionally made, Hollywood-crafted films scoring a respectable score of 80% or higher. And they want millions of dollars for writing and acting in a film that’s going to be 62% of the time crap?
And, if you broaden the field to every single movie made in 2023, only 788 of a massive total of 8,818 films released scored an 8/10 or 80% or higher according to IMDb. That’s an abhorrent 9%!!!!
If Hollywood and the film industry as a whole can only create good movies, let alone great ones, at a best rate of 40% and a worse rate of just 9%, then why should anyone of these elitist fools get paid 9%-38% of what they’re already making?
You wouldn’t pay a plumber, carpenter, electrician, coal miner, or firefighter, soldier, customer service worker, doctor, healthcare worker, farmer, cook, construction worker, police officer, astronaut, piolet, teacher, etc. (I really could go on for days with jobs more important than an actor, writer, or CEO of a Hollywood entertainment company) hundreds of thousands and millions of dollars if they only did their job competently 9%-38% of the time.
Hell, they wouldn’t get paid a tenth of what an actor or writing is getting paid right now even if they were masters in their fields of work.
So, in my personal opinion, all of these writers, actors, and executives can screw themselves until they do their jobs for us fans and paying customers properly and consistently.
