This team looks GOOD. AC Milan are utterly destroying all their opponents in the first two weeks of the Serie A season as they not only sit on top of the league with 6 PTS, but they also have the best goal difference as well.
Are we looking at the Serie A title winners already?!?
Despite only playing two games of the Serie A season thus far, AC Milan easily looks like the team to beat for the Scudetto this year as they have steamrolled both Bologna and Torino in their first two games to sit above everyone else in 1st place with the best GF, GA, and GD. And, even though it’s early, I really think this team can blow their competitors out of the water.
Alright, I know it’s SUPER EARLY and that it’s a little ridiculous of me to be making a prediction and article like this, but AC Milan have played SO WELL these last two games. Not only have they racked up at least 7 shots on target, 500 completed passes (well, they had 498 against Torino but I’m still counting it as 500), 85% passing accuracy, and have scored at least two goals in both games, but they’ve also not trailed by a single minute.
Against Bologna to start off their season, AC Milan DOMINATED their Northern Italian rivals through Olivier Giroud and new signing Christian Pulisic goals to put the game out of reach, while their backline of Theo Hernandez, Fikayo Tomori, Malick Thiaw, Davide Calabria, and goalkeeper Mike Maignan soaked up pressure and shut up shop to give Milan an opening-day 2-0 victory.
Then, just this past Saturday, Milan absolutely exploded on Torino as they scored three unanswered goals from two Olivier Giroud penalties and Theo Hernandez’s late first half strike to obliterate Torino 4-1. And it wasn’t like Milan lucked out with no conceding goals against in these two games as even though there were a few half chances, their defense played brilliant and Maignan only was beaten by a very strange, lucky Perr Schuurs’ volley.
Unlike the rest of their competitors in Serie A, such as Juventus (who drew this weekend), AC Roma (who haven’t won a game), Atalanta (who lost this past weekend), and Inter (who have yet to play this weekend but just squeezed past Monza last week), AC Milan are really the only team who has put in consistently dominating, ruthless, and title-challenging performances against the mid table of the Italian league.
In fact, only defending Serie A champions Napoli has been the only team (aside from Milan) who has looked decently poised to post challenge for the Serie A title as they had convincing wins against Frosinone and Sassuolo to start off their title-defending campaign.
So, again, I just want to iterate that it’s entirely possible AC Milan completely collapses, losses their next five matches straight, Christian Pulisic, Rafael Leao, Olivier Giroud, and their defense wilts under the pressure, and Milan end up finishing in 6th place. That could very well happen when they face off against the likes of Juventus, Inter, Napoli, Atalanta, and Roma.
But, I’m sticking with this early-season AC Milan hype train as they look like one of the only two complete, dominating, and capable teams in Serie A to mount a title challenge for 38 weeks, maintain a good balance of scoring and defensive responsibilities, and they actual have the experience of winning a title as they did so just two seasons ago.
So, I guess we’ll have to wait and see where Milan goes this season, but I really have high hopes for them.
