This was the only solution that benefits both parties. Manchester United have officially decided to part ways with EXTREMELY CONTROVERSIAL forward Mason Greenwood after the UK government concluded its investigation into his allegations.
Hopefully, both parties can move on and rebuild from here.
After over a year and a half of allegations, suspensions, controversies, questions, mysteries, and investigations by both governing bodies, criminal bodies, and club bodies, Manchester United have finally come to the conclusion that they will RELEASE Mason Greenwood from his contract with the club. And, to be honest, this was the only possible resolution for this issue.
Now, I don’t really want to get into the Mason Greenwood story too much as it’s not only just as controversial as the player himself, but it’s also a very messy, confusing, and frankly fishy situation that I’m probably going to get in trouble if I even attempt to break it down in detail.
Still, I will give the broadstrokes of the story by saying that in January of 2022, Mason Greenwood was indefinitely suspended by Manchester United and the English National Team for allegations from his former (and maybe current? I’m telling you, this is such a messy tale) girlfriend that he verbal and physical abused her during viscious, angry, and vengeful tirades.
And the evidence she provided of her with a bloodied lip, black eye, dark and yellow bruises, and audio recordings that sound A LOT LIKE MASON GREENWOOD being a total crapshoot of a human being were quite compelling…well, compelling enough for the UK criminal bodies to launch a formal investigation into the player for allegations of domestic abuse.
Yet, during the year and a half that has followed, a bunch of the key witnesses for the case have strangely dropped out of testifying, supposedly United CEO Richard Arnold was given longer video recordings that dispute the claims of the girlfriend and her family, and even the girlfriend herself withdrew from witness proceedings and denounced the police investiagation into Greenwood before all allegations and investiagtions were dropped against him.
It’s really a complicated, strange, and honestly wacky situation that I don’t want to reshash anymore.
Nevertheless, even though Greenwood has cleared his name in this case, he still has a long history of direputable behavior that just can’t be allowed or endorsed if your Manchester United. Whether its this case or Greenwood’s hotel room excursions with Iceland woman on England duty a year ago, the young English forward has held himself in a dreadful light and has destroyed his own United career through poor decision making.
I’m not saying that Greenwood should never play football again as everyone makes mistakes (especially young people) and since he hasn’t done anything legally wrong, there’s no reason for any OTHER team in the world to not sign him. Unfortunately for Greenwood, he made all of these bad personally choices while being a United player and has brought disrepute to the club…which must be punished through contract termination.
We’ll have to wait and see if more charges are brought against Greenwood that would make someone else employing him impossible, but as for the moment, the former wonder boy and face of the future for Man United is a free agent.
