Are the Orioles a professional baseball team or is it just a minor league crapshow? The Baltimore Orioles and their executives have shown themselves to be utter incompetent and pathetic fools as they SUSPENDED their own broadcaster for STATING FACTS!
The Orioles better reinstate this guy instantly!
In what has to be the worst instance of butthurtness in the MLB this year, the Baltimore Orioles suspended their own on-air television broadcaster Kevin Brown after the young broadcaster simply stated facts about the Orioles. And, if you couldn’t tell, this really has not gone down well in the MLB world.
So, for those who don’t know what I’m talking about, the Baltimore Orioles management really couldn’t appreciate being a decent, unproblematic MLB team for a minute as after their own TV announcer, Kevin Brown, gave a brief statement about how the Orioles have had a tough recent history at the Tampa Bay Ray’s Tropicana Park and had gone winless at the stadium for the last six seasons in season series.
In fact, this is his exact quote, “It’s been a minute. The Orioles have lost their last 15 series here at Tropicana Park. You would have to go back to when out now colleague Brad Brock picked up the win in the series finale. June 25th, 2017 the last time the Orioles won a series here at (Tampa Bay).” Pretty harmless, right?
I mean, it’s not only a fact that the Orioles have really struggled of late against the Tampa Bay Rays, but also that they’ve struggled against THE ENTIRE LEAGUE.
The Orioles have not made the playoffs since 2016 (7 years ago), they went five straight years (2017-21) without a winning record, they haven’t had 90-wins in a season since 2014 (9 years ago), their record in the last seven years since their 2016 playoff berth is 406-649 (.384), and they haven’t had a .500< winning percentage in a decade since the 1990’s.
Yes, the Orioles went 628-920 (.431) in the 2000’s, 755-865 (.466) in the 2010’s, and have gone 160-224 (.417) in the 2020’s. Or, in other words, the Oriolos haven’t been good in 30+ YEARS!
Yet, despite these obvious and straight forward facts, the Orioles management and acting owner John Angelos really didn’t want to hear their own TV announcers stating how crap the team has been under their hideous reigns as they not only took Brown off the air after he went to commercial, but they also ended up SUSPENDING HIM INDEFINITELY for his comments.
The same, tame, and rather begin comments I listed above.
It’s just utterly stupid and moronic to suspend your own announcer just because he’s LISTING FACTS ABOUT THE TEAM’S RECORD, even if these facts are painful to listen to. He didn’t say anything overly critical or harsh, he didn’t call out any of the players, executives, staff, or owners, he didn’t say anything offensive, and he collected himself in a calm, cool manner that you’d expect from a professional broadcaster.
You don’t fire him because he’s telling the truth. What is this, the 1984 version of baseball?
Thankfully, many people are coming to the defense of Kevin Brown as nearly every single professional commentator, and especially all of the MLB commentators and announcers, have stood up for Kevin Brown and have called out the Orioles management for their braindead nonsense. And 95% of online fan interaction with the Orioles and posts about the Orioles is super negative and critical of their decision to fire Kevin Brown.
At the time of me writing this article, I’m not sure if Brown is going to be back on the air in a day, a week, a month, or ever again for the Orioles home station. But I know for certain that anyone of the 29 other MLB teams would snatch up Brown in a heartbeat.
You really can’t get out of your own way, can you Orioles management?
