Yeah, this port was a little too good to be true. Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 1 port to the newer PS consoles and the Nintendo Switch sounded great in principle, but the more details coming out about the game is not promising to say the least.
This is a Rockstar Games port alright.
After nearly 15 years post its 2010 release date, Red Dead Redemption 1 is FINALLY getting ported to the new versions of the PlayStation consoles and the Nintendo Switch. Yet, despite what should be a slam dunk port and publicity stunt, Rockstar is getting hammered by its own fans due to the utter lack of effort they’re putting into the port…and I agree with the fans.
I wish I saw the specifics of this port BEFORE I wrote that article about this game yesterday, but what can you do LOL!
Anyways, as you probably know by now, Red Dead Redemption 1 and John Marston’s OG adventure in trying to save his family from the grips of the US Government and the claws of his old outlaw life are finally getting ported to the new versions of the PS and the Nintendo Switch after years and years of reluctance by Rockstar to modernize their game.
And, this would normally be great news as the original game is not only one of the legendary and classic games in the world of gaming, but it also shows Rockstar’s commitment to accommodating all aspects of their fanbase. As I said, for years, the original Red Dead Redemption game has only been available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 users, a set of consoles that came out 2006 and 2005, respectively, and hasn’t gotten any minor attention or fixes from Rockstar in a decade.
In fact, not only were PC gamers completely cut off from using the game as a PC port was (and still is) never developed, but also only Xbox users could play the game on modern consoles through built in backwards compatibility. Simply put, Rockstar really has been quite awful to a large extent of their fanbase with the lack of accessibility over playing Red Dead Redemption 1.
So, when I saw yesterday that Rockstar was FINALLY porting the game to PlayStation and the Switch, I was ecstatic as I thought Rockstar would at the very least be updating the graphics (relatively speaking) and selling it at a reasonable price. Sure, all of the other Rockstar “remakes” and “ports” have been nothing short of poor cash grabs with very little enhancement from the original game, but I had hoped this game could be different.
It’s not.
The game not only has NO GRAPHICAL ENHANCEMENTS OR UPDATES from the original 2010 graphics (yes, Rockstar is so lazy to update the graphics of a nearly 15-year-old game), but the game is also being sold for $50! Yes, a game that came out 15 years ago, is completely unchanged from the original, and has received no content updates in the last 13+ years is being sold for $50!
That’s downright criminal.
Does Rockstar seriously expect people to buy RDR1 at $50 when RDR2, a game that improved upon the original in every aspect 2X over and is eight years younger than its predecessor, is being sold for anywhere from $40-$60 today? Obviously, they must as this game is going for full force on its August 17th release date.
But thank goodness of us fans are speaking up about this game and the utter laziness Rockstar is putting into this game as its just wrong to charge $50 for a port of a game that offers nothing more than the original title did yet is nearing 15 years old.
I’m glad there are companies like Capcom in the world as at least they care about making GOOD and CREATIVE remakes, not the corporate shill products like Rockstar are doing.
