How short is this movie? The Marvels just had another trailer of sorts come out, and it still looks like a horrific crapshoot that we know now is extremely short.
The higher ups over at Marvel and Disney really are terrified over this film’s reception, aren’t they?
Despite featuring three of the most powerful characters in the MCU as of now and once being the crowing jewel of the MCU post Phase-3, The Marvels has been pushed back, delayed, and swept under the rug with useless trailers and is reportedly the shortest MCU movie by a country mile. And, to be honest, that’s not even too unexpected.
What a sorry state the MCU is in nowadays. You only need to think back just a few years to remember a time when even the crappiest of movies and miniscule of comic book superheroes, such as Captain Marvel (hmm, what a coincidence Captain Marvel keeps popping up) and Ant-Man, were making well over $500M at the box office (with Captain Marvel making over $1b+!) and garnering hundreds of thousands of people to watch their films in theaters.
Remember those days?
Yeah, they were officially the last legs of the MCU Golden Age as ever since Avengers: Endgame (with a few exceptions like Spider-Man: No Way Home), the MCU brand has been insulted, tarnished, embarrassed, disgraced, abused, and neglected by a combination of the actors, directors, writers, producers, executives, and various behind-the-scenes crews that Marvel and Disney has hired to create nearly all the projects in Phases 4 and 5.
Of course, it’s not everybody, but it’s a large enough portion of the talent pool Marvel has built up to bring about the decay of the MCU as we see today. And the promtion…or lack thereof as I really should be saying…for The Marvels is the epitome of Disney and Marvel’s failures over the last three years.
If you’ve seen the new The Marvels trailer, then you’re in perfect position to tell me what the new plot of this movie is besides the fact Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeau are moronically swapping places due to using their powers? Go ahead, I’ll give you all the time in the world to answer the question…well actually I won’t as I already know your answer: YOU CAN’T!
Watching that trailer, which is coming out only a few two months before the actual release of the movie, will only make you realize you need to watch all 2 hours and 4 minutes of Captain Marvel to understand Captain Marvel’s character and complexities, all 8 episodes of Ms. Marvel to understand Ms. Marvel’s character and complexities, all 8 episodes of Wandavision to even know that Monica Rambeau is a character in the MCU, and most likely all 6 episodes of Secret Invasion to understand why the hell Nick Fury is in a space station.
Can you see why this an utter disaster for the MCU and why they’re desperately sweeping this film under the rug?
First off, Secret Invasion and Captain Marvel are objectively bad MCU projects and should be avoided at all costs, while Ms. Marvel is a T.V. show that’s okay on a first time viewing but gets worse when you think about it in the grand scheme of the MCU.
Hey, I’ll hold my hand up and say that I actually enjoyed Ms. Marvel for the most part and gave it an 8.5/10 (which is a good 1.5 points WAY TOO HIGH on reflection), but the series completely contradicts all of the multiverse lore the MCU has established in projects like Loki, Wandavision, and Doctor Strange 2.
And, speaking of Wandavision, why the hell should you have to watch and entire series about two COMPLETLEY DIFFERENT AND UNRELATED characters to Monica Rambeau to understand who the hell Monica Rambeau is. The vast majority of Wandavision is about Wanda (who’s dead) and Vision (who’s dead)…so, the show really has no bearing the MCU if you think about it.
Nevertheless, this film being a rumored 1 hour and 30 minutes shows how terrified Marvel and Disney are in investing in this project as they know nobody is going to watch it.
The movie is filled with unlikable, unknown, and just uninteresting characters who have either been shoehorned into our screens and we’ve been told to like (aka: Captain Marvel), hidden away in projects completely unrelated to them (Monica Rambeau), or made so niche that only a small minority of the MCU audience has heard of them (Ms. Marvel). And that’s a recipe for a box office bomb!
The Marvels is almost destined to be another box office failure for Disney, which must be giving CEO Bob Iger night terrors as he’s already overseen the House of Mouse losing $1B+ at the box office in 2023 ALREADY! And the year’s not even 3/4ths over yet!
We’ll have to wait and see if this movie is any good or not, but I’m not holding my breath.
