The Giants BIGGEST MISTAKE Has Now Come Full Circle…And It Only Took Half A Season

This is why the Giants have been a laughingstock these last 10 years. The New York Giants disaster season just got infinitely worse as Daniel Jones has been confirmed he tore his ACL and will be out for the entire season.

When it rains, it really does pour.

Despite getting a massive contract extension just a few months ago, Daniel Jones will be out for the rest of the season due to him tearing his ACL in the Giants’ humiliating, blow-out 30-6 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders yesterday. And, this really does just show how incompetent the Giants management truly is.

This is really now a doomsday scenario for the Giants. Not only have the Giants followed up their best season in the last half decade with one of the most disastrous humiliating 2-7 collapses in franchise history, but now their franchise QB has suffered a potentially career-altering injury. And this injury is far worse for Daniel Jones than it would be for practically every other QB in the league.

But, before I get into that, let me talk about the injury.

So, according to Giants head coach Brian Daboll, Daniel Jones teared his ACL when he went down with that awkward dropback during the first play of the 2nd quarter. Obviously, no one wants to see anyone get hurt and wishes the best in moments like that, but it was clear Jones was seriously injured. You don’t go down and leave the game on a non-contract injury unless it’s REALLY serious (and especially not for a resilient, tough QB like Jones)…and this was a major injury.

At the very least, Jones is going to be out for the next nine months and will hopefully be ready to play, let alone be at the best of his game, by the start of the 2024 season.

Still, when a QB suffers this sort of injury, whether they rely on their mobility or not, the QB has to focus heavily on his passing and pocket presence until his knee fully recovers. But as I said a few sentences ago, this injury is even worse for Daniel Jones as he pretty much can ONLY use his mobility to be productive. And even that has it limits.

Ever since Jones was drafted 6th overall by the Giants in the 2019 draft, he hasn’t thrown more than 3,200 yards in a season, 25 touchdowns in a season (he only reached 20 once in 2019 with his 24 TD passes), he has had 10 or more turnovers in 4 of his 5 professional seasons (and 15+ in 3/5 years), he has never thrown the ball more than 472 times in a season (most QBs throw 500+ attempts PER YEAR), and last season was the only year he didn’t have a losing record as a starting QB.

If you subtract his great rushing stats, Daniel Jones is one of the very worst QBs in football based on his passing abilities alone…which makes this injury so dreadful for New York as now he can’t be mobile. Even if Jones comes back to full health (which I hope he does), there’s no way he’s going to be the exact same QB as he was just one play before the injury as the mental hurtle ALONE will cause him to think twice about moving on that surgically repaired knee.

Of course, players have come back from ACL tears and have played really well (Tom Brady, Adrian Peterson, Thomas Davis, Rob Gronkowski, J.J Watt, Gale Sayers, Philip Rivers, etc.)…but many more haven’t been the same. The career-killer reputation this injured had was more so for past players as they had less treatment and quality care given the day and age, but a torn-up knee is still a torn-up knee.

And if Daniel Jones needs to cut quicky and efficiently to evade oncoming pash rushers and linebackers, I doubt he will be able to do so as effectively as he once was able to. Moreover, the Giants really have been made to look like the biggest morons ever as they gave a QB, who pretty much needs to have mobility and evasiveness to function at just a respectable level in the NFL, a 4-year, $160M contract.

And now that guy has a potentially career-altering knee injury. WHY DID THEY GIVE JONES THIS STUPID DEAL!?!?!

The Giants season is definitely over with them now being 2-7 with their 30-6 defeat at the hands of the Las Vegas Raiders, but the next half decade of Giants football might also be a wash if Jones can’t get back to his somewhat competent level as his contract is a literal anchor.
