This game is going to live on for another decade to come! CD Projekt Red has at long last announced a community-lead mod editor that will allow The Witcher 3 to have thousands of game-changing mods to keep the game alive for a decade more!
This is such great news.
After seven years and so many accolades and awards, The Witcher 3 is most likely in line for a few more in the coming years…in the form of community mod recognitions as CD Projekt Red has announced they are finally releasing an official mod editor for the legendary title. And, as you obviously know, I think this is such an incredible idea.
So, I know I’m a little late in covering this story as CD Projekt Red did announce this a good week ago or so, but I can’t help but praise and talk about this as having an official community mod editor for The Witcher 3 is such a brilliant idea. Having the potential of seeing dozens of new stories, characters, items, armors, weapons, locations, etc. all interaction and coexist around Geralt and the existing story of The Witcher 3, which is already one of the greatest stories and games of all-time, is so exciting I can hardly contain myself from playing the game for the 15th time.
Okay, I can contain myself from just booting up The Witcher 3, but that doesn’t negate the fact that CD Projekt Red has just sanctioned the continuation of this title for at least the next 10-15 years.
Obviously, given the sensational graphics, gameplay, UI systems, characters, voice acting, stories, side quests, Witcher contracts, etc., this game was always going to be played and last long after the end of the 2020’s decade. Hell, I’d say The Witcher 3 in its current state today can continue to run and be played without any major enhancements or remasters/remakes until 2040. That’s how great the game looks and runs!
But, that’s purely on a technical and graphical level. I love The Witcher 3 just as much as anyone, and there is so many missable quests, items, events, interactions, etc. that it could take someone 5 playthroughs to see everything, but even I can admit playing the main story and the DLCs over and over and over can become a little repetitive and stale. Even for a game as detailed and robust as The Witcher 3.
At some points, fans are just going to move on and wait for the next Witcher title to come out to experience a brand-new story, new characters, and another 1000-hour dedication to a game…if a community mod editor is not released for the game. Just like how Skyrim has lasted and will continue to last as the most popular Bethesda title ever and easily one of the longest mass-played games with it having been released 12 years ago, mods made by the community of that game prologue that game’s lifespan tenfold.
As I said, a game like Skyrim really should have died out four or five years ago as The Elder Scrolls VI is waiting in the Bethesda wings to be released.
Yet, with the arguably biggest modding community among all video games, Skyrim has been constantly invigorated with all different types of mods, whether they range from the smallest reskins on burial urns to massive, full game sized expansions such as Beyond Skyrim, Vigilant, Skyblivion, Legacy of the Dragonborn, etc., to the point that Bethesda really doesn’t even have to release another game as they will still make millions from new copies of Skyrim being sold.
Oh, and did I mention that all of these mods are FREE! Yes, you can download mods that not only are the same size as Skyrim and its DLCs, but there are even ones BIGGER than all of Skyrim and its DLCs COMBINED FOR FREE!!! And that’s what it seems like its going to be for The Witcher 3.
Again, the potential for new stories, characters, locations, items, houses, etc. are limitless and I really can’t wait for The Witcher 3 to be opened up for the modding community!
