This might be the most moronic franchise in the entire NHL. The Chicago Blackhawks are at the center of yet ANOTHER controversy as they had to release Corey Perry after a workplace incident spiraled completely out of control.
Whoever is working for the Blackhawks PR team must be fired and strung up in a stockade for the rest of the NHL community to throw tomatoes at.
Despite having SO MANY controversies in the recent past, the Chicago Blackhawks have put their foot in their mouths once again as they completely mismanaged and bungled the Corey Perry-release incident. And, to be honest, I just don’t know how this organization can be so stupid SO OFTEN!
So, if you don’t know what I’m talking about, the generally gist of the story is that the Chicago Blackhawks took Corey Perry, who was one of their better forwards with 9 points in 16 games, out of the lineup completely on a whim, exiled him from all team-related activities, gave only EXTREMELY VAGUE answers in response to questions about him, allowed malicious, horrific rumors to fester about an inappropriate relationship Corey Perry and Connor Bedard’s mom NEVER HAD (let me repeat: the RUMORS ARE COMPLETELY, CATEGORICALLY FALSE), and essentially just let Perry somewhat explain the situation himself after they waived and terminated his contract.
In other words, the Blackhawks made a MASSIVE mountain out of a sizeable molehill.
Now, don’t get this article twisted: I’m not condoning or explaining away Corey Perry’s actions and issues. As Perry said in his own statement, the man has an alcohol issue (most likely an addiction given the context of the wording) and that spiraled out of control and caused him to do something (we still don’t know what) really stupid and harmful to one or multiple Blackhawks employees.
Again, this has nothing to do with Perry’s relationships with his teammates or their families, but rather Perry being stupid and foolish with members of the Blackhawks staff that was egregious enough for the Blackhawks management to essentially fire Perry.
Yet, the Blackhawks being the stupid, moronic Blackhawks, they didn’t immediately come out and say that Corey Perry had an issue with one of the Blackhawks staffers or had a workplace incident, but rather used these vague, innocuous statements that made it seem like Perry did something FAR MORE HENIOUS than what actually happened.
Once more, being a drunken buffoon (which it sounds like Perry was) is unacceptable when at work, even if you are a professional hockey player being paid millions, but that’s far different than sleeping with the franchise’s superstar mother, breaking up an entire family, and most likely destroying any meaningful relationship Bedard and the Blackhawks organization would have over the next 10-20 years.
You see what I mean when I say the Blackhawks made this situation 1000X worse?!?!?
I really hope this doesn’t damage the Bedard family in any way or the Perry family (for Corey Perry also has a wife) as these rumors are completely untrue (according to everyone involved with the situation) and have no basis in any fact. It would be a great shame to see the mismanagement of an ass-backwards organization, despite its origins as being one of the Original 6 founders of the NHL, cause so much unnecessary harm.
And, just to wrap up, I also hope Perry gets the help and treatment he needs as you don’t need me to tell you that substance abuse issues are dreadful.
