That was an abomination of a game to watch if you’re a Chargers fan. The Los Angeles Chargers just got the beatdown and humiliation of a lifetime with their 63-21 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, and that was more than enough for the Chargers to clear out house and fire HC Brandon Staley and GM Tom Telesco.
This was more than overdue.
Despite seeing the Raiders score a grand total of 0 POINTS last week, the LA Chargers wanted everyone in the NFL to remember that they are the most pathetic franchise in football as they just lost by a team-record 63-21 scoreline to the LA Raiders on Thursday Night Football. And, due to such a massacre, the Chargers ownership decided to completely clear out house and fire HC Brandon Staley and GM Tom Telesco.
So…where the hell do the Chargers go from here?
If you watched just a few minutes of that game last night between the Raiders and the Chargers, you would have either come away with one of two thoughts: A. The Raiders look like the Super Bowl favorites with the best offense, QB, receiving core, offensive and defensive lines, and the most prolific takeaway defense in football; or, B. The LA Chargers look like they just assembled a team full of CFL rejects to play football for a night in the NFL.
Sadly, for Raiders fans, though they know what I’m about to say is 100% true, the first takeaway from this game couldn’t be further from the truth as Las Vegas came into this game not only on a 3-game losing streak to drop their record to 5-8, but they had also just went through the most grueling and eye-blistering game of football this NFL season to date as they lost 3-0 to the Minnesota Vikings.
Yeah, two NFL teams really just put up 3 points in 60 minutes of football in the year 2023, but that’s beside the point as the second observation is the far more damning and accurate of the two as I really don’t know if the Chargers had any professional football players playing last night.
The Chargers found themselves down 42-0 AT HALFTIME last night with Aiden O’Connell, who couldn’t even score a single point against the Minnesota Vikings a week ago, put up a 20-34, 248 passing yards, and 4 touchdowns against a Chargers defense with the current NFL sack leader in Khalil Mack (15.0 sacks).
And they were only 7 points away from tying the Broncos 70-point tally for the most points scored against in an NFL season this year…which was a record that had held for 60+ years prior to this season. So, that’s a weird stat.
Anyway, either this team forgot how to play football, or they have given up completely on the season with Justin Herbert and Keenan Allen both going down with season-ending injuries this week. My bet is on the latter as Dean Spanos, the much maligned (and rightfully so) owner of the Chargers, came out today and announced that he had fired the much maligned and mocked (and even more rightfully so) former HC of the team, Brandon Staley, and the team’s former GM, Tom Telesco, effectively immediately.
And, like I said in the intro, this was the only option the Chargers could have taken with such a horrid game. The Chargers played so bad that you even had Richard Sherman, who was an announcer fir the Amazon Prime halftime production, saying that LA should fire Brandon Staley AT HALFTIME given how dreadfully the Chargers looked.
And that probably would have been too kind for that clown as that guy was the literal embodiment of incompetence, stupidity, and eccentric arrogance in an NFL head coach. There’re just no excuses for how many games that guy blew with his dumb clock management and key down decisions, while the GM also needed to take the full brunt of the responsibilities for hiring and sticking by that guy for so long.
Nevertheless, we’ll have to wait and see where the Chargers go next for their head coach, though I think we all know who they would like to hire: the emperor of New England…Bill Belichick.
