This team is an utter disgrace. The Detroit Pistons are hellbent on making NBA history…for all the wrong reasons…as they have just tied the record for the most losses in a row with 26!
The fans of Detroit should revolt against this franchise and ownership.
Despite having one of the best histories of any team in NBA history, the Detroit Pistons have fallen lower than anyone could have imagined as they have just lost their 26th game in a row and are only a single loss away from breaking the all-time losses-in-a-row record in NBA history. And, to be honest with you, there shouldn’t be a single person involved with the Pistons who survives this catastrophe after the season ends.
How is this possible?
How have the Detroit Pistons, who won at least 17 games (which really isn’t great, but at least it’s something) in each of the last four seasons, fallen so low that they now are in the midst of an all-time losing streak that will see them be eliminated from playoff contention by Valentine’s Day?!?!? This is an embarrassment to the Pistons organization, and someone needs to pay. NOW!
I can’t believe I’m so worked up about the failures of the Pistons as I’m not even a Detroit fan (I’m a Celtics fan), nor do I have any relation to the city or fanbase. I just can’t stand to see such a proud and historic franchise as the Detroit Pistons are being run into the ground, then bulldozed by a thousand Cat crawlers, trampled by a million stampeding bulls, and then pissed on by the Pistons ownership and management.
Anyway, for those who haven’t watched the last 26 Pistons games, you really haven’t missed much other than one simple fact: the Pistons lost…all the time. Sure, there was close games, respectable scores, and obviously 30+ point blowouts during this horrific streak, but one factor remained constant no matter who stepped onto the court for the Detroit Pistons. And that’s their loss record continued climbing.
Yet, we’ve now reached a point where Detroit must win their next game against the 14-15 Brooklyn Nets, the very same team who Detroit lost 126-115 to last night, to avoid setting a new 27-straight losses record that no team in NBA history should ever break again. Though, I thought it was going to be impossible for any team to beat the 2010-11 Cleveland Cavalieres and the 2013-14 Philadelphia 76ers 26-straight losses in a single season record, but here we are.
And, truthfully, I think we’re going to see the Pistons’ record extend into the 30’s by the time all is said and done.
Why? Well, aside from the fact that not a single player on that roster deserves to be within the first 7 players in the rotation, let alone starting for one of the 32 NBA franchises, the Pistons are in the Bottom-12 of the NBA in EVERY SINGLE MAJOR OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE STAT LINE.
The Pistons have the worst 3-point shooting offense (30th in attempts, 30th in makes, 3oth in percentage), the Pistons are in the Bottom-10 for all major field goal shooting categories (21st in attempts, 23rd in field goal makes, 21st in field goal percentage), the Pistons are the 10th worst rebounding team, the 11th worst assisting team/game, they give up the most turnovers per night with 15.7, and score the 3rd least amount points per night at 109.2.
They score the 3rd least number of points per night, Detroit allows the 8th most field goals and 8th highest shooting percentage, they generate the 2nd lowest number of steals per night and the 3rd lowest number of blocks, they give up the 2nd most number of free throws attempts, the 2nd most free throws, and the 4th worst free throw percentage in the NBA, and allows the 4th most points a night per game at 120.9.
I mean, at least they have a decent 3-point defense, right?
Okay, putting aside the sarcasm for a second, there’s just no way this Detroit team is going to be competitive anytime soon with a season like this. Unless they get the next Michael Jordan or Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the draft this season, I don’t see how the Pistons make the playoffs before the start of the 2030 decade. That’s how bad this team is…and how incompetent the Pistons ownership is.
The Pistons haven’t made a serious playoff run since the 2007-08 season when a 31-year-old Chauncey Billups led Detroit all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals. Every other season since then has been either a First Round exit or they’ve missed the playoffs altogether. And that’s been the case for the last 16 years!
It’s a great shame what has happened to the Pistons as this organization needs a complete overhaul and rebuild from the topmost of tops to the bottommost of bottoms, but, hey, at least they can go for the 76ers 28-straight loss all-time record (they did so between the 2014-15 and the 2015-16 seasons) in the meantime.
