This is going to destroy the Warriors. The Golden State Warriors are going to be EXTREMELY SCREWED for the foreseeable future as Draymond Green has been suspended INFEDINITELY by the NBA.
What a disaster this is going to be for the Warriors.
The Warriors are really in massive trouble now as they are not only three games under .500 with just about 25 games played on the season, but also are now going to be without Draymond Green for a long time as he’s been suspended indefinitely by Adam Silver and the NBA. And, to be honest, I’m not even sure we’re going to see Draymond back much before Valentine’s Day.
What a complete and total crap show this season has become for the Warriors.
Like I said, they’re already REALLY struggling to keep up with the top seeds in the West as the Warriors are currently 10-13, 11th in the West, and 3 games behind the Los Angeles Clippers (who are a dumpster fire in their own right) for the 8th seed in the West. Yes, you read that right. The Golden State Warriors are three games behind a Top-8 finish already, while they’re a full 7.5 games behind the 1st-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves and look nowhere near as deep, energetic, or talented as the likes of the Minnesota, the Mavericks, Nuggets, Thunder, or even the Lakers.
That’s how poor this start to the season for them has been.
Aside from Steph Curry, who is playing great basketball as he always does, every single star player on the Warriors is BADLY underperforming and hitting near or complete career lows.
Klay Thompson is shooting 39.7% from the field (career-low), 34.3% from beyond the arc (career-low), and scoring just 15.4 points/game (lowest total since rookie year in 2011-12), Chris Paul has career lows minutes played (26.6 min), points/game (8.9 points), assists/game (7.4 assists), and the 2nd worst rebound/game stat line in his career (3.6 rebounds), and Andrew Wiggins is having his worst season of his career by a country mile, let alone his time with the Warriors, with just 12.1 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 1.1 APG, 41.3% FG shooting, and 27.9% 3-point shooting.
Remember, these players all combine for just under $100M YEARLY on the Warriors salary cap! That’s just not good enough, and now the Warriors are going to be without not only their best defensive player, but also 1/3rd of the heart and soul of this team in Draymond Green.
After that punch on Jusuf Nurkic that saw him immediately get ejected in the Warriors 119-116 loss to the Phoenix Suns (who, also, are in a bad place right now) a few nights ago, Draymond Green just got told today that he’s being indefinitely suspended by the league after already getting ejected in three games this season.
Now, I don’t really know what happens to Draymond Green in terms of how long he will be suspended as it seems like he’s really trying to go for Rasheed Wallace’s 25-ejection record in the modern NBA era, but I do know that the Warriors are going to continue to faulter without him in the lineup. He’s really the only guy they have who can consistently be a presence and menace in the paint with any meaningful size, while he’s also their only player who can lockdown another team’s best player.
And, seeing how the Warriors right now have the 11th-worst defense in the NBA (they give up 115.3 points/game), I don’t really see how losing Draymond Green for any significant period of time is going to help them improving that stat.
