Ubisoft Will Become A CANCER In The Gaming World

Ubisoft Will Become A CANCER In The Gaming World (Ubisoft-Far Cry 6-Game Overview Trailer)

This company needs to be outright shut down. The Ubisoft director of gaming subscriptions have come out and said that gamers need to “feel comfortable” with the idea that they won’t be able to own the games they purchased in the future!

This is what corporate theft looks like.

Despite being asinine and completely antithetical to everything the gaming industry has been since its inception, the Ubisoft director of gaming subscriptions, Phillipe Tremblay, has come out and said that gamers will need to “feel comfortable” with not owning their purchased games in the coming years for gaming subscriptions to really take off and change the market. And, even though he is factually correct, his and Ubisoft’s very existence will become a cancer in the gaming world if they’re allowed to expand and gain traction.

Okay, maybe I should clarify that when I say Phillipe Tremblay’s “existence” is a cancer, I really mean his job title. I’m sure the guy is very nice and all, so I don’t want to make aspersions on his character without knowing him or his work personally.

But, back to what I was saying in the intro, this concept of “not owning games” may be one of the most diabolical and cancerous ideas to come out of these Triple-A gaming studios since microtransactions. It’s that bad of an idea…for us gamers!

I’m sure there are ways for Ubisoft to already shut down one’s ability to play their game (even if they claim it’s impossible without this subscription model) if the gamer breaks the terms of service or Ubisoft is feeling especially prickly one day, but the fact that a company can outright strip you of a product EVEN AFTER PURCHASING it is insane to me. And expecting us gamers to “feel comfortable” with said theft is even more asinine, but that’s exactly what Ubisoft wants to do through this gaming subscription service.

If you haven’t seen or read about this interview with Ubisoft’s Phillipe Tremblay, it’s essentially just a breakdown as to how he and the Ubisoft department of gaming subscriptions wishes where the future of gaming progresses. And, of course, he wants it to be the next coming of “The Streaming Wars”. Doesn’t that just sound like fun?

Back to being serious, it doesn’t surprise me that an ass-stain company like Ubisoft is nowadays wishes to promote a means of purchasing gaming that takes all power away from the consumer/gamers and redirects it fully and squarely back to the publishing company; but rather I’m more concerned about this becoming a common occurrence within the gaming world given the “popularity” (it’s more like forced popularity IMO) and overwhelming shift (which is mainly forcing the “popularity”) of streamed games.

Sure, it’s nice to be able to sign up for a streamed-game service, play an arsenal of games one normally couldn’t fit on the limited storage capacities of a console and PC, and play these games anywhere one wishes, but it equally as pleasant to outright own your games and be able to play, transfer, and access anytime one wishes. That might not be the case if Ubisoft has its way with this moronic gaming subscription service.

Not only will this allow these companies to produce these games SOLELY through digital means and be able to strip all traces of the game from devices if they so desired, but it also FORCES gamers to hope their favorite games will not be taken down from these streaming services.

I’m not saying Ubisoft and these other greed-filled publishers (aka: EA, Activision, etc.) will set up a “rotating-cast system” of games as it is on services like GeForce Now and Xbox Game Pass, but they probably will in my opinion. Why? Because then they can just charge you double to pay for a streaming service that holds all of their games.

Are you guys really telling me you can’t see them doing something as despicable as this?
