Game Of Thrones Is Losing The Plot…

Why? Why are they making ANOTHER PREQUEL SHOW?!?! The Game of Thrones franchise is really getting hung out on the ideas close line over at HBO as they have confirmed yet another GOT prequel has been greenlit.

One was more than enough, but how many do we have now? 5?

Despite just having one season under their belts on House of the Dragon, HBO is pumping out Game of Thrones prequel shows as if they are classic Jordans for it has been confirmed that another prequel show has been greenlit and is currently being produced. What is that prequel show going to be about? Aegon’s Conquest.

I don’t want to make it sound like I hate GOT prequels or that HBO is making new shows for I really do enjoy House of the Dragon. But we’ve only had a single season of HOTD and HBO is already making two more prequel shows? They do realize these things are not like action figures, and you can’t just mass produce them on top of one another.

Okay, for those who don’t know what I’m talking about, the Hollywood Reporter has come out with an article about a week ago now that said a brand-new prequel series to Game of Thrones is in the works under the stewardship of Mattson Tomlin (the writer of The Batman).

And what is this new series going to be about? The Jon Snow show! Oh, wait, that’s actually a sequel to Season 8 (yeah, it’s doomed to fail) that may or may not be in the works (it really depends on if Kit Harrington can convince the HBO executives to make this show).

No, it’s actually the 10,000 Ships series that will showcase Nymeria Martell (the founder of House Martell) and her Rhoynar people (the ancestors of the Dornish) as they escape Essos and the ever-encroaching Valyrian Empire (the ancestors to Daenerys Targaryen and the rest of the family). Wait, what’s that? That’s not it either.

Is it the animated series about the Golden Empire of Yi-Ti…which is an Asian-inspired, far east empire that really isn’t fleshed out AT ALL in the books? No, also not that one. And it’s also not the 9 Voyages animated series that will focus on Corlys Velayron and the journeys that made him a sea-faring legend.

So, it must be the Dunk & Egg slated prequel show that will adapt the first three novellas in the Knight of the Seven Kingdom series, which is a novella series that follows around a young King Aegon V Targaryen (the great-grandfather to Dany, Viserys, Rhaegar, and maybe Jon Snow?) and his guardian knight Dunk (a Flea Bottom-born hedge knight) as they explore the 7 Kingdoms, go on fun adventures, and meet the legends and intriguing characters and houses of their day.

Sounds like a great series to me as it provides a change of pace…oh, I see that look. You know it’s not this one either. No, it is actually a brand-new prequel series about King Aegon I Targaryen, the founder of the royal Targaryen bloodline in Westeros, his sister-wives, their legendary dragons, the ancient kings of Westeros, and the conquest that forged the Seven Kingdoms 300 years prior to Game of Thrones.

Do you see what I mean about these prequel series?

Is a series about Aegon the Conqueror, Visenya, Rhaenys, and the Conquest an incredible idea? Yes, 100%! Would I (and I assume many others) like to see a series like this? Again, 100%! Is this series needed right now? NO!!!!!!

Have these studios REALLY LEARNED NOTHING from the failure that was the 2020-2023 film and television landscape for blockbuster and franchise films? Huge franchises like Star Wars, Marvel, Lord of the Rings, and DC were all oversaturated to the max with new projects, shows, animated works, spinoffs, prequels, sequels, etc. during the lull of COVID and the early 2020’s, and it resulted in each of these franchises to fall into their most feeble states yet.

And now HBO (and by extension Warner Bros. as they own the studio/network) wants to oversaturate another huge franchise with 8 million projects? Are these people really that fucking stupid?!?!?!

House of the Dragon, which was greatly received and resurrected the reputation and prospects of the GOT franchise, is not even into its second season yet, and we’re already going to put it on the backburner for these other shows? Can we not give some of these projects some time to breath and marinate, and us fans by extension!
