The Witcher Season 3 Trailer Was…Interesting, I Guess

The Witcher Season 3 Trailer Was...Interesting, I Guess (Netflix-The Witcher-Season 3 Official Trailer)

Uh, did the Witcher writers forget what they set up last season already? The Witcher Season 3 has just had its official trailer released, and the scenes shown really have me questioning if the writer forget what they set up just last season.

This is what happens when you try to rewrite the novels, yet still rely on them for inspiration.

The Witcher Season 3 has just had its first official (and probably final) trailer dropped for public consumption prior to the show’s June 29th release date, but the trailer is riddled with weird plot holes, book arcs and plots that really shouldn’t be in the show, and just downright strange writing decisions that don’t even add up to the conclusion of Season 2. And, I’m not surprised as this show is going to be swallowed up by the White Frost as soon as Henry Cavil leaves.

Well, the first and probably final trailer for The Witcher Season 3 is finally here…and it looks just as bad as I expected. Seriously, I have no idea how Netflix was able to turn a very decent, promising show (with a few minor faults) in Season 1 into an utter dumpster fire of a mess that should have had the plug pulled on it a year ago with the release of Season 3.

Oh, wait, I do know how that happened: BAD, INCOMPETENT, ARROGANT WRITING.

The events of this trailer perfectly encapsulate what I’m talking about as it appears Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer are completely fine with one another and are journeying to the Coup of Thanedd (a book event) together…despite the fact Yennefer tried killing Ciri last season.

Yeah, in a span of what appears to be a few months (if even that), Ciri has forgiven a woman that not only lied and deceived her into a false sense of security pretty much all of last season, but who also was more than willing to sacrifice her to a demonic being in order to get her powers back (which is not a book event). I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t think I could forgive someone who tried to sacrifice me ever, let alone in a couple of months.

And what about Geralt and Yennefer? How has Geralt gone from holding her at sword’s point in the finale of last season to making out with her in this trailer?

Let me say this again: Yennefer TRIED TO SACRIFICE CIRI, Geralt’s adoptive daughter, TO A DEMONIC BEING! Book and game Geralt would have cut Yennefer down the moment he found the two and rescued Ciri from the Gaunter O’Dimm knock off, not instantly make out with her at the next possibility.

Well, actually, book Geralt might still make out with Yennefer, but he would also cut her down right after.

This whole adoptive mother-father relationship dynamic with Ciri, Geralt, and Yennefer, which was such an intrinsic, integral part of the novels, has been completely destroyed due to the incompetence of these Netflix writers. Perhaps other people can get over this point, but I will never be able to see the relationship between Yennefer, Geralt, and Ciri the same with the fact Yennefer tried sacrificing Ciri for a stupid plot device that was never in the books in the first place.

Anyways, another dumb event I saw in the trailer was the Coup of Thanedd as I’m not entirely sure why it’s even happening given how the events of the show’s story have played out.

The Northern Kingdoms and the Brotherhood of Mages not only placed A BOUNTY ON CIRI’S HEAD at the end of Season 2, but also these northern rulers should be hunting down and massacring the mages/Scoia’tael for Francesca Findabair’s mass baby murder (including the son of Redania’s King Vizimir) in Redania. That includes storming the magical island…which is very close to Redania.

Plus, why would the mages of Thanedd, which includes the Brotherhood, not immediately capture or kill Ciri, Geralt, and Yennefer the moment they arrive in Thanedd with the bounty on their heads? And why would Geralt take Ciri to a place that has at least four different factions trying to either kill or capture them?

It makes sense in the books due to the fact that…there is no bounty on Ciri or Geralt’s head from the Northern monarchs or the Brotherhood.

Moreover, the events of how the Coup of Thanedd go down are going to have to be changed dramatically given Francesca Findabair and the Scoia’tael’s abandoned Nilfgaard and are now hunting after Ciri for some god-forsakenly stupid reason. I know the trailer is only 2:45 minutes long and just a snippet of Season 3, but the season just reeks of writers trying to make up a plot on the fly due to their disdain for the book series but also desperately relying on the book series to come up with plot ideas.

The irony would be really funny if it did not come at the expense of The Witcher and Henry Cavil’s work as Geralt of Rivia.

Oh, did you forget? This is the last time you’re going to be seeing Henry Cavil in that classic white wig as he’s unceremoniously stepping down from the role due to the writers being incompetent hacks.

Yeah, this is going to be a tough season to get through…if you even watch it. And I wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t.
