Are the Wizards just this stupid, or is there another deal happing in the works. The Washington Wizards are trading away Bradley Beal to the Phoenix Suns for Chris Paul and a bag of potato chips…even though they literally have no one else on their roster to compete with.
Whenever you think your franchise is the worst run in the NBA, just rest assure you aren’t a Wizards fan.
Despite having one of the most valuable, lucrative trade chips on the market, the Washington Wizards are set to receive a 38-year-old Chris Paul, Landrey Shamat, multiple second round picks (the exact figure is still undetermined), and some pick swaps from the Phoenix Suns for their All-Star Guard and Face of the Franchise Bradley Beal. And, it goes without saying that the Wizards management is filled up with a bunch of idiots.
Obviously, I’m not going to overhype this move too much for the Suns as even though they’ve just built another Big 3 with KD, Devin Booker, and now Bradley Beal all set to suit up for the Suns come next year, I still don’t think this move gets them any closer to the championship.
Seriously, what career accomplishments do Bradley Beal, Devin Booker, and Kevin Durant have that make you think Phoenix, who will now be over the SECOND luxury tax threshold ($150M) by $19M dollars (Suns cap as of this moment: $169M), have enough in the tank (or more like starting 5 as they have no depth) to win a championship next season over the likes of Denver, LA Lakers, Sacramento, Golden State, Milwaukee, Boston, or Miami?
Bradley Beal and his 1 All-NBA (3rd Team) nod in 2020/21? Devin Booker and his 1 All-NBA nod in 2021/22, or his two blowout choke jobs in back-to-back elimination games?
These guys simply don’t have the championship pedigree to make a deep run based solely on a Big 3 performance like the 2000’s Spurs, 2008 Celtics Big 3, the 2010’s Heat Big 3, or the 2010’s Warriors Big 3.
Each and every one of those teams had guys who made numerous All-NBA teams, All-Defensive Teams, won MVP awards, Defensive Player of the Year Awards, and the Heat and Spurs even had guys with previous championship experiences.
“But that’s where Kevin Durant comes into play,” some Suns fan or KD superfan is probably saying right now. And, I hate to break it to you, but the notion that KD can win championships on his own or even as the centerpiece of a Big 3 is just wrong.
Nearly every single milestone or accomplishment KD has had in his career has come with him being apart of a Big 3 as he was the focal point of the OKC Thunder Big 3 of 2010-12, the Golden State Warriors Big 3 (which was really a Fantastic 4) of 2016-19, the most chaotic Big 3 in NBA history with the Brooklyn Nets in 2020-23, and now with the Suns for the 2023/24 season.
And, aside from winning two rings on the Warriors dynasty that won just as many titles without him, what has he done? Oh, that’s right, leave his Big 3 due to their failures in the postseason for another Big 3…to only fail and leave for another one.
“It’s the history of de Kevin Durant” as the great Giorgio Chiellini would say.
Anyways, back to the Wizards, this might go down as one of the worst moves in the franchise’s history.
The Wizards literally had one of the two most sought after players on the trade market to start off the NBA offseason, and they really traded him away for a 38-year-old Chris Paul, a bench player in Landry Shamet, and multiple 2nd ROUND PICKS!
Not even 1st round picks, but 2nd ROUNDERS! Those are even more worthless than a damn NFT right now…unless you have competent GMs and scouts…which the Wizards most certainly do not.
And I hear they might be moving out Paul as well, so they’re actually getting literally trash (no offense, Landry) from the Suns for their best player.
It may be true that Bradley Beal would only waive his no-trade clause for the Suns and forced the Wizards into this horrible deal, but that only makes the Wizards executives look even more foolish by giving Beal the only no-trade clause in the NBA when he signed his extension.
I just don’t know how you can be so stupid in running an organization as the Wizards executives have been with this team, but Wizards continue to impress me with how poorly run they are.
And this deal might be the icing on the cake.
