Well, this is going to be a rollercoaster of a season. Netflix just released the first trailer for The Crown Season 6, and the series finale season really looks like one of the darkest ones yet.
All good things must come to an end…though, this might be a really dark end.
After seven years and dozens of award wins, The Crown is finally coming to an end as Netflix released the first trailer for the sixth and final season of the show. And, being honest, I think this is going to be one of the saddest and most depressing seasons of the show.
Okay, I know I’m not breaking down doors with my prediction about this season of the show being really dark given…well…death and despair is so ingrained in the story of this era. Again, the tragic death of Princess Diana in that horrible 1997 car crash in Paris is one of the most sad, shocking, and dreadful moments not only in English history, but also world history, given how much of a cultural force and phenomena Diana was.
The now-ex Princess of Wales (Kate Middleton has now taken upon that title given the sad death of Queen Elizabeth II and the ascension of King Charles III to the crown and Prince William to the Prince of Wales) was so beloved, respected, and liked by practically everyone, whether or not they were a British subject, British commonwealth member, citizen of a former British colony/territory, or just a citizen of a completely unrelated nation, that her death really shocked and darkened the world for those few weeks and months after her death.
I mean, just go back and watch her funeral and the few authentic reactions to the news of her death that came from the day. It’s really quite sad and painful to watch someone so beloved be audibly and physically mourned by millions.
And this is the story this season of The Crown is going to tell. In great detail…judging by the first trailer.
Obviously, I can’t make out what the exact story will be and how the different relationships will transpire, but it was very obvious that Diana will take center stage in this season. Hell, she’s going to be pretty much the focal point given all of the historical stuff I just said and how integral she was to the royal family at the time.
But, nevertheless, the trailer didn’t really show too much aside from shots of Diana in Paris, Diana away from her children, precursors to the tragic accident, and quick-shot reactions after the accident. Of course, the visuals were amazing, all the actors (and especially Elizabeth Debicki) looked great in their portrayals, and the sets all looked top-notch. But that was never in question, right?
The real question is how Netflix and The Crown showrunners will wrap up this story, and will it be satisfying enough after seven years and five fantastic seasons? And, to be honest with out, I think they’re going to do a fantastic job if this trailer is anything to go by.
November 16th can’t come fast enough!
