I have a lot of harboring resentment towards Morgott as you can probably tell. This guy has killed me over 50+ times (especially as Margit the Fell Omen), but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a sad, and somewhat pathetic, life.
Morgott was born, along with his twin Mohg, to Queen Marika’s and First Elden Lord Godfrey, making him one of the demi-gods of the Lands Between. Yet, that would be too simple of a backstory for an Elden Ring character. Unfortunately for Morgott, he was born an omen, a horrible curse that plagues the body with horns, which is a big “no-no” in the Lands Between. By the Golden Order’s decree, all omens must be vilified and cast away from the societies of their birth.
And Morgott was no exception, even though he was of royal blood.
His own mother and father had Morgott and his twin brother, another omen, locked away into the sewers of the royal capital and kept far away from the royal court. And in that jail cell/sewer cell was where Morgott stayed until the Shattering, which was the result of his father’s banished (as Radagon became the Second Elden Lord) and caused his mother to be imprisoned by the Golden Order.
Morgott was able to escape the cell and went to claim the Elden Throne for himself but was denied. Thus, despite being cast away by his mother, his love for her and the Golden Order convinced him to protect her and the Golden Order’s rule from any potential challenger all the way up to the events of Elden Ring.

“Aw, his backstory sounds so sad,” I hear of few of you say. “How can you call him pathetic?” Well, to that I’d say you have clearly never faced him under-leveled.
Like many people who played Elden Ring as their first Dark Souls game, I faced Margit the Fell Omen (Morgott in disguise) at Level 11. Yeah, that was a massive mistake,
Over 50+ deaths, 3 rage quits, and one broken controller later, I beat Margit to go on and face Godrick the Grafted. Needless to say, I have little love for this buffoon.
Why is this guy still defending the Golden Order? Its sacred tenets are the reason why he was IMPRISONED in the first place. Out of all the demi-gods, he should be the first to denounce the Order and all that it stands for. Moreover, why does he have to be the one to defend Godrick? I could have saved $20 on an Xbox controller if it wasn’t for his “put these foolish ambitions to rest” nonsense.
Why didn’t he just defeat Godrick and take the Elden Ring Shard for himself like every other demi-god did after the shattering? That way, he could be content with holding a piece of his mother’s power and authority, while also making him a boss for me later on in the game. One who is not destroying me for not understanding how difficult Dark Souls/Elden Ring bosses are for beginners!
Anyway, this article really has just divulged into a rambling mess. Seeing how sad Morgott’s life was before Elden Ring does make me feel for him, but then I think of my many, many deaths at the hands of Margit the Fell Omen. And that just makes me revel in defeating him as Morgott, The Omen King all the more.
