This is a dream come true for Aaron Rodgers. Out of all of the likely Super Bowl contending teams this season, Odell Beckham Jr. would fit in perfectly on the Packers with Aaron Rodgers as his QB and the man responsible for getting him the ball.
First off, we all have to thank Pat McAfee and his crew for putting this suggestion out into the world. At least in the past few months, I haven’t seen too many rumors/discussions in the media world placing Odell Beckham Jr. on the Packers apart from Pat McAfee and his crew talking about it on with the one and only Green Bay Packers QB, Aaron Rodgers, on his show yesterday.
This is why we, the fans of the NFL, all love McAfee. He gets these great player-team matchups started.
Nonetheless, it seems that Odell Beckham Jr. is also a big fan of Pat McAfee as he retweeted a clip of the conversation with Rodgers and tweeted a bunch of encouraging hand emojis that all but confirm that the former Rams and Giants WR is very interested in joining the Cheeseheads in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
And I’m sure the Cheeseheads are just as excited as Beckham Jr. might very well be the guy who gets this offense clicking.
Just think about it, if Odell Beckham Jr. did end up signing with the Green Bay Packers, he’d instantly become the most experienced and successful WR on that roster. He already has 530+ RECs, 7,300+ receiving yards, 56 receiving touchdowns, he’s been to 3 Pro-Bowls, and his Rams winning the 2022 Super Bowl last season has finally given him a Super Bowl title to his name.
There’s not a receiver, tight end, or running back on the Green Bay roster who can even boast of a third of those stats and accomplishments. Obviously, he’ll be great with giving advice, help, and leadership to the young core of WRs, as well impressing them with his work ethic and winning mentality.
Moreover, he’s only 29 years old. He’s still got a few more good years at the peak of his career.
With Rodgers as his QB, he should be able to easily rack up 50 RECs for a minimum of 750 yards and 5 TDs peer season for the next 2-3 years. Sure, those stats might be a drop-off in production from his days in New York and Cleveland, but that might just be all the Packers need for a serious Super Bowl push.
The Packers already have the promising talents of Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs, along with the steady veterans Randal Cobb and Allen Lazard, so OBJ wouldn’t need to be relied on to put up 1,000-yard or 1,200-yard receiving seasons in order for his team to succeed.
He would just need to take some pressure off of the young receivers, while also being able to come down with clutch catches when called upon…just like he did with the Rams last year.
Of course, the only concern with signing OBJ to a contract is his recently bad injury record as he’s coming off two consecutive ACL tears and surgeries. Will he still be able to push off and cut like he used to on surgically repaired knees? Hopefully.
Nevertheless, I think OBJ’s proven talent and recent team success is more than enough evidence and assurance that giving him a 2-year deal would not be a huge risk for a team to take, especially when you have Aaron Rodgers as your QB.
